Ummm..okay..what's the deal with SVS?? I took a few days off from reading here and come back to find mysterious stuff here and on their website?
I'm relatively new to forums and can't seem to find the links discussing the "new rules" refered to. I found a link on AVSforum that seemed to be a copy of a post here stating that I can't recommend or even discuss an SVS sub with anyone outside of the "SVS forum".
Is this true?? I'm no fanboy of any particular product, as I don't have enough experience to favor one over another. I don't want to tick anyone off, but that would seem a bit extreme to me. Could someone please bring me up to speed?

I don't think it's a 'new' rule but the idea is to try to keep threads on a particular subwoofer on track instead of evolving into a discussion of SVS subs instead of the subwoofer that is the topic of the thread.

That kind of thing happens with any thread though. Someone will ask about a Pioneer receiver for example and in no time the majority of replies are about Yamaha or Denon receivers and why the poster should choose one of them over the subject Pioneer.

What is annoying is that we can suggest other subs other than SVS such as HSU as an alternative for whatever the topic was. It seems wrong to make such a rule. IMHO

I Agree with this statement.

The funny thing is that I ordered a PB12-plus last week and I feel like an orphan before it's even delivered.

Dave.

I am sure you will feel fine once you have and you are playing with it. You won't give the forum a second thought for hours.:D

I have to agree with Dave. I've had mine for a couple months and have to say I suddenly feel like an outcast. ....but a very sonically happy one!

I made my decision to purchase after reading a LOT of posts here and on other boards; along with reading several reviews. Some were very helpful; some were useless cheering for whatever product was owned by the poster. I considered Hsu and Rocket along with SVS and made my decision according to what I felt met my needs.

It never really occured to me that this site was a for-profit business. Guess I'm still a bit of a noob. Most of the education I've gained in this arena came from sites such as this and playing with the equipment I've purchased.

As the saying goes, you can't believe everything you read. Nowhere is that more true than the web. Yes, there are people out there who have an agenda to move, but they are relatively easy to spot, even for a noob. Usually if you read far enough, someone with more experience calls them out.

Speaking of agendas, IMHO this smells like a typical business dispute wherein the customer gets the shaft (read up on the joy that is Charlie Ergen and E* lately! LOL! That guy has sued more times than Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles combined!). Also as usual, we never get to know who's really right and who's really wrong. Thirteen years in law enforcement has taught me it usually lies somewhere in the middle.

I have to agree with Seth and Mazer, if you can recommend Hsu, Velo, Rocket, etc. then you should be allowed to recommend SVS as well.

Ban all or ban none. That's my version of "War and Peace" and I'm stickin to it!

Now we'll see if I can still post tomorrow or not! :p

I won't pretend to know the whole deal, and I'm also fairly new to this forum, but from what I understand some SVS rep, or something, was using this forum to try to try to talk people into buying his product. He was warned not to use the forums as a sales tool, but kept at it, so SVS was dropped as an advertiser. At least that's what I got out of the explaination.

that's what I got out of it too, and I have absolutely no argument that SVS makes subs that are highly recommendable, but it seemd to me that a good deal of subwoofer threads turned it to "you should buy a SVS", it was starting to sound like no other manufactures are worth buing from.

I'm not going to pretend to understand what went on with the decision to dump SVS. No opinion on the matter other than AH did what they felt was best.
But I don't feel that SVS was given unfair votes by the members here. They make a great product for the money, doesn't sound as if the admins are disputing that fact, and I think the bang for the buck factor was the reason SVS dominated the postings.

Call me a fan boy but my opinion hasn't changed since AH and SVS have parted ways.

I don't see a reason to feel orphaned. There are plenty of companies that get discussed here that are not advertisers. Nobody said mentioning SVS was against the rules. Did they?

I think the new policy is just & a good idea, hopefully it will pertain to all threads,IMO way too many threads descend into madness that has nothing to do with the op's question or pertaining to the gear in question.

The new rules are a bit tough to follow but if it is true that you can mention HSU subs in a thread about Polk subs but not SVS then really there is no other choice then to think that this forum has an agenda . I hope this is not the case.

I don't know what is so confusing about this: Any critiques of this policy should be done via PM, not on the forums.

Well excuse the heck out of me! I'm relatively new and started this thread to ask a simple question....which has yet to be thoroughly answered.

Yelling is certainly the way to make people feel warm and welcome. I see new members coming in droves. :(

I was yelling, no. I did however make the assumption that if you read that thread on AVS that you read the entire thing which stated all the reasons and rules.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
* We will not ban SVS threads about SVS products - they make some cool subs, so people are free to talk about them as they'd like - in their own threads.
* All SVS employees have been banned from the website.
* We will not allow SVS posts in non-SVS review threads. I'm sorry, but it has come down to this.
* Any critiques of this policy should be done via PM, not on the forums. We took a long time to come to this conclusion and we were willing to lose a lot of monthly income over this in order to make sure we don't allow our forums to become a marketing tool for a single advertiser. We are not the first (or likely last) website to enforce similar rules.

I think your reading too much into all of this,im not the official "anything" here on audioholics but i can say that of all the forums AVS & AA included you'll see less interference here than on any other site.

I dont think the new rules apply to a member talking about any one brand over another brand its about keeping the threads in perspective & on track with the op's question.

Try to relax a bit & spend some time on the forums here & i think you'll see that the only agenda here is keeping everything on the up & up:)

I wonder if my 20% off any SVS product that I won in a drawing a while back is revoked. Hell, I don't actually NEED a new sub, but the SB12 looks pretty sweet.
