The zero tolerance policies by school districts has resulted in over reactions and consequences. So as not to waste a moment to capitalize on the current narrative, CAIR will be holding a prayer vigil to end Islamophobia, conveniently overlooking what the real issue is. Why perhaps CAIR will even have a prayer vigil to show support for the gay community for the numerous deaths of gay individuals committed by ISIS when they pushed them off buildings.

I'm just tired of the paranoia. I remember just a few years ago when TSA announced new measures which at the time included frisking children. Why hide and be a secretive pedophile when you can work for the TSA.

Horrible things will always happen. It has always been and will always be. Doesn't mean we should put guns in the hands of teachers or hand over our liberties. Otherwise we may as well be hoarded up like cattle to be kept safe. And yes, I have two kids of my own.

I can see both sides of this issue. Yes, in hindsight the powers that be do seem to have over-reacted but, never having seen a suitcase bomb in person, I can see where this device might cause a bit of consternation. Had they let it slide and it had been a bomb, what would the public reaction have been?

I don't mind the over abundance of caution. I mind the over abundance of stupidity on not a 2nd look. They knew what was in the geek case and by virtue what wasn't in the geek case. That being any explosives.

Those are all valid questions which I trust will be addressed in the days to come. It probably starts with a thorough reading of the school district's no tolerance policy as well as an examination of the police policy in such matters. I have read that one of the reasons for the extended questioning had to do with alleged vague answers by the student to questions. Perhaps he was scared? I hope there's a full videotape that will be released.

There's a fundamental problem here Chu. He should have never been questioned with out his parents notification and subsequent consent.

Sorry, I value children's lives than that of a child who lied about his accomplishments. I guess you never heard of kids getting killed in school or muslims carrying out bombings, even suicide bombings?

Nope. You read it spot on. In the balance of the reaction, 5 LEO's showing up, questioning him even after he asked for his parents, I have ZERO issue with a photo op.

My two cents - things that happen all of the time:
(*) People manipulate a situation
(*) People overreact
(*) People get part of the story and instantly feel compelled to judge those involved, assuming that they are incompetent
(*) People get offended when others judge them when they don't have the whole story
(*) People act like sheep and jump on the bandwagon
(*) People use situations to further there political and economic goals
(*) And so on...

This is just the latest in a never-ending string of human events and rippling reactions. I find the scale of it ludicrous, but that's certainly not unique. I find many national reactions to events to be ludicrous, given the crushing apathy that many people display towards events with greater implications than a kid getting arrested. That's probably one of the reasons that I rarely pay attention to the "news."

The fundamental problem as I see it is that this has been a carefully orchestrated hoax and sandbagging by the family. The actions by Ahmed were purposeful and calculated to elicit specific, predictable responses. Now the family will lawyer up assuming they think this hoax will not be uncovered.

It's based on the premise that he asked for his parents during questioning. It's supposed to stop at that point. It's the same as asking for a lawyer.

LEO's don't get the same latitude with minors that they do with adults.

If he indeed asked for his parents during interrogation it is supposed to stop. I'm not saying that this is or isn't something being pulled by the Father. That can be figured out in the fullness of time and investigation.

I once saw a court case where a licensed driver rear ended an unlicensed driver. The licensed driver was trying to say they shouldn't be guilty of failure to maintain safe distance since the car they ran into shouldn't have been on the road.

But that's not the way it works: The licensed driver was guilty, and the driver of the rear ended car was charged separately and found guilty of driving without a license.

Just because he 'may' have been put up to this is 100% unrelated to possible civil rights violations. It is what it is.

The guy was out for two things.

1) Make it look like muslims are a poor, innocent people who are unjustly picked on. Yes, a fine upstanding people who kill their daughters if they go against "their" laws.

2) Sue the powers that be and make a ton of money.

To accomplish this he had no qualms sending his son to do the dirty work.
