Ok, I have decided to go w/ this build and I have ordered me a Kappa 12vq. I'm only going to build 1 sub, that all I have room for. Also, the DCX 2496 is not in the budget so I'm going to do without it for now. I'm trying to put a parts list together from going through the forms so this is what I have so far but have a few questions:
Kappa 12vq
3/4 Birch Ply
EP 2500
Rock Wool
From PE:
XLR to RCA Adapter (should the XLR be male or female?)
Feet
Binding Post
What kinda of low crossover?
Do I need a high crossover?
Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks!
I suggest a sub dude for it to sit on. It's worth the money to decouple this sub from your floor.
You seemed very confused about the details..
For a high pass filter I suggest the Elemental Designs
http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_info.php?cPath=2_123&products_id=657 or the Reckhorn B-1
http://www.reckhorn.com/index.php?ln=en&prod=b1
The B-1 is supposed to boost voltage, but I still like the idea of having the EQ of the ED.
About the EP2500. I don't suggest it for a single Kappa build.
The kappa never goes below 4ohms in modeling. So you only need a 4ohm stable amp. If you plan to add a DCX2496 later then you will want a pro amp with XLR inputs most likely. If not then you have some choices. I suggest a thorough search of Craigslist for great deals. Crown, QSC, Yamaha Pro Amps, Alesis, and Behringer all can be found used sometimes for a great price.
Another option is the O-Audio Bash amp which includes the subsonic filter and some boosting features.
Since you're on a budget I will suggest you look for a 12.1 sub. It's very comparable and Ebay's for around 100 dollars. I've found them on craigslist for 80 before. Maybe with that extra 100 you could swing the DXC2496.
If you want this to be a cheap project. There are ways to save.
Even a 12.1 built in an MDF version of this box powered by an O-Audio bash amp would outperform any sub I've heard or seen under 1000 dollars(exception Matt34s sale)
Just make sure you use the rock wool, bracing, port and an Infinity Perfect driver. Both are variable.
