If you choose to forgo the recommendations and use a home depot material. Then use fiber glass. They have a 3.5" R11 fiber roll that would work fine. For 10 dollars. It's not as good a rockwool, but it's more than adequate. I do suggest putting burlap over it or putting the paper face out

R19 would work even better for acoustical treatments but it's a little tougher to work with due to it's thickness.

If you double the R11 with the face out on the port wall and use a window brace you'd get an effect like rockwool.

Slight variations in tuning aren't significant but can be tested by modeling the sub in winisd. You need at least a 1db difference in the model before there is a difference and a 3db difference before their is a significant difference. The key is to always start ideal so your variances are within tolerances.

Remember we want to kill the mechanical noise. It's evil and must be destroyed from the sound of your sub.

The original plans say to use a 4" piece of rockwool, if we get the single sheets from the link you provided, would 1 sheet be enough? The stuff is only 2" thick so I guess we would just need to double it up.

It's best to get 2" sheets they are more versatile.

You could probably double it up to get enough thickness. But you can do the measurements I'm sure.

They also sell 6 packs. If you want to do some room panels you can even buy frames and burlap from them for that.

Would a EP4000 be too much power for this setup? I know the EP2500 is reccomended, but it doesn't look like any of the local shops have that, only the EP2000 and EP4000. There is only a $50 difference betweewn the two, and I know my friend wouldn't mind spending the extra $50 on the amp if it would be better, but if the EP2000 will be plenty then he may just go with that. He is going to just build one right now and if he likes it he will build another, so he wants to make sure he has enough amp to run them good. A 20 amp circuit is already installed so I know he has the ability to take advantage of the larger amp.

the ep2000 would be plenty and may very well be the same amp. Behringer is notorious for rebranding.

Also check for deals on QSC in the area. Sometimes you can get a great deal on one used. This brand is widely used in bands/churches/clubs. So the used market is very nice in many places for them.
