JVC RX 8000VBK....need some help..

To all, first I am a new member, so be kind.....
Now, I have had the RX 8000VBK for some time but have just added the Dish Network. The Dish box has a fiber out port and the normal R & L sound out. I cannot get the surround feature to work, it's always analog. I hve 3 fiber inputs on the receiver, I connect it up with a fiber cable, no sound. The digital works fine with my DVD Player.
I am hoping there is another 8000VBK owner here.........

Any Ideas?

First off.........there are very few things on the satellite, that broadcast in DD 5.1, unless it is an HD sat. Only the movie channels (HBO, Shotime, Starz, etc.... and not all of them) and some PPV channels are broadcast in DD. Even with HD sat., only the HD channels are DD (and same ones listed above).

Second......... you don't just plug in the optical cable and have DD or DTS. You have to assign the input you're using on the receiver, for whatever you're hooking up to it. You may also have to tell it to use digital, instead of analog. If you are using the tv input, you may have to hold down the button for a few seconds, to change it from TV, to DBS. The manual will tell you how to do this. Just go through it, step by step, with the manual, and you shouldn't have a problem. If you don't have the manual, you may be able to find one at www.jvc.com, in PDF format. If it has OSD, go through it there, and you can probably figure it out, fairly easy.

Thanks for the reply, I do have the manual. Well, I went through it step by step with no luck....I should have read your post before I wasted my time. Here is the problem, on the back of the Dish box was an optical out plug, so I thought "plug it in and get surround sound", wrong. But, why do they have an optical out? For the premium stations that do broadcast in 5.1? In the setup screen for Dish you can choose Dolby. So, I connected the optical out to the TV optical in on the JVC, reassigned that port to DBS, and changed toh input to Analog ..still no sound? So, I plugged the L&R on the Dish out to the TV Audio in on the JVC and that works, in Analog. I still can't figure out why the optical connection doesn't work? One more thing, why can't I pump analog through all 5 speakers?
