No, it's not, and you can't bring yourself to realize that.
You're right, he is a prime example of the ignorance of the far left that is just as pathetic as that of the far right. Neither is worth a plug nickel .........

When the conservatives win there will be amicable merger as the 51st State.
I saw it as a joke, it's one I make all the time. I'm a Canadian now back in Canada but lived half my life in the US including a term in the US Army. The US/Canada border runs between much of my closest family. My son is American and now serving in the Canadian Armed Forces. He may have chosen the Canadian Army just to mess with me. But yeah, whenever I get together with my Can/Am family and friends we constantly use nationalism to make fun each other in very politically incorrect ways. That's how it should be IMHO.

On being the 51st State it's actually a better deal for American businesses if Canada stays a sovereign nation with a slightly less valuable dollar. We don't really need to be a state because we're already an American branch-plant economy. I doubt a Republican President would seriously want to bring another blue state into the union. But Trump makes a good point, after several years of degradation at the hands of Trudeau, Canada needs to shore up its military, secure its border. Most Canadians would agree.

When the 51st state nonsense was first brought up, yeah, one could consider it a boorish joke from a boor. But, the more he repeats it, the more other MAGAts voice support for it. The next thing you know, there it'll be a full-fledged campaign. Perhaps I'm overreacting, but I'll be glad to be proven wrong.

As for our military, defence spending dropped to 1% of GDP under Conservative PM Harper. Over the last few years under Trudeau, it has been steadily increasing. Too slowly, in my opinion, but certainly not going down. He pledged to eventually meet the agreed NATO minimum of 2% - again, too slowly - but Poilievre hasn't even pledged that much.

But, can't Canada just say no? Not trying to sound like Nancy Reagan, but it couldn't happen without Canadian approval and the US wouldn't go to war over this, right?

If I were in Canadian government, the US Congress alone would be the first reason I would decline. The national debt isn't something ANY country wants to be a part of and it's so out of control that I'm genuinely surprised that nothing has been done to stop the stupidity. IMO, Congress doesn't have a whole brain stem, collectively.

Yes, Canada can say no. But, if the US government, as well as non-government individuals/organizations, conduct a campaign to destabilize our country, all bets are off. It's not exactly unprecedented.

But, Canadians are smart- besides, it requires the government to allow it.
