Hi All,
I was planning to buy either Parasound A51 or B&K Reference 200.7.
Today I went to buy my paradigm speakers and dealer offered me MCA 50 for $2200 and I could not pass it so I just ordered it.

Now I would like t know your view about it.

Do you think I made a mistake or is it a good a buy?

I've YAMAHA RX-V2500 and I'm intend to keep it for quiet a sometime considering all this purchase is ~$6,000.00 and I do not have anything left to spend.

Do you think I paid a fair price of $2200 + Tax?

As at http://www.hometheatersound.com/equipment/anthem_mca50.htm price is mentioned as $1,999.00

Dealer told me it is $2,999.00 so I don't know if it is a printing mistake in review or dealer is cheating.

Are you in Canada or the States? If you in Canada then IMO that was to good deal. Which digm's did you buy?

I bought it in Canada. But now USD is almost same as Canadian Dollar so the price difference should not be that big considering it is made in Canada.

Following is my speaker setup
Studio 40 V4
Center CC590
Surround ADP 590

here in the Philippines, the MCA50 is indeed more expensive than the 2k SRP.

so it's just more cost effective to buy a real 200wpc x 5 Rotel 1095 at 2k than an MCA50 that has a shady 180wpc x 5 (shady because look at the THD ratings, it's not 20-20k 0.0X% at 180wpc)

Let's see if the dealer will bring down the price it is good otherwise I'll just take my speakers and will delay my amplifier for now.

With the $800 Emotiva XPA-5 (200 wpc x 5), I just don't see any point of buying anything else.

so keep yours, your happy thats the idea, but there are better units, especially for some that are more music driven than ht driven, emotiva makes a great value product with big bang for the buck, but is not the end all.

Hope I did not offend you (or anyone else).

So I take it you feel that different amps sound differently from one another, even when they have equal power output, F.R., output impedance, THD, crosstalk, etc.?

I heard Bryston warranty their amps for 20 yrs?

How many years is the warranty on McIntosh and Anthem amps?

that is exactly the point, do they have the same power, thd? they all dont publish the same specs, which makes comparison next to impossible.

I thought Audioholics measured the power output @ 20Hz-20kHz & @ 0.1% THD, instead of the usual 1% THD.

no offence, i havent checked macs in a while but since when mine was made 81 and still kicking, i dont have any compliants. Better Sound is subjective in my opinion, but ability is proven and tested. I dont knock anyones goods, i just know their will always be better, which makes this hobby fun:)

...And very obsessive.

I just know that if I had the money, I would own something like the Mark Levinson monster mono-blocks.

Yeah, you're right.

I still cannot believe that Bryston offers this:

"We offer a full 20 Year transferable warranty, parts and labour, on all our analog products."

Very True. I never see that many complains from people about their Amplifier as Receivers.
As there are not many chips and other digital things involved as in Receivers.
As you said if the things are made correctly they are meant to last long long time. I guess that's why we go with proven brand names.
