Just ordered a pair of SongTowers; is my receiver sufficient for now?

I just ordered a pair of Salk SongTowers and am wondering if my current receiver (Yamaha HTR-5450; it's now 7 years old) is good enough for now. I will probably upgrade it pretty soon so I can connect my TV's HDMI, but I wanna at least listen to my new speakers while I'm deciding on other equipment. My TV isn't 1080p so blu-ray won't be happening for a long time, and musical sound quality is more important than home theater.

Any suggestions on an amp/receiver for these speakers? I don't want to sacrifice musical quality if I can get something better than my current Yamaha for a reasonable price. I wanna get a turntable in the near future as well, but that's down the road.

Thanks. I'm sure this has been discussed a million times already.

If you are just using a pair stick with your current setup. A new hdmi receiver is only worth it if you are going surround sound. A pair of bookshelves for music doesn't need an hdmi receiver. You can simply use rca jacks and you will get the same sound.

Congrats on your new SongTowers! You're gonna love them. What finish did you order?

Dennis Murphy, the designer of these speakers, says any receiver or amp that delivers an honest 50 watts per channel will do fine with these speakers. Other than entry level HTIB receivers, that includes just about any HT receiver sold. What does your Yamaha do?

I have listened to SongTowers driven with a 75 wpc Denon receiver, a 100 watt Outlaw stereo receiver, and 200 wpc external amps. All of them are fine.

Jim Salk and Dennis Murphy have often answered this question at the Salk audiocircle forum.
