I just saw
Cantus down at the Washington Pavilion this evening- all I can say is WOW!
Such an incredible group of singers, and a great performance. I'd almost forgotten the joy of coming home after a show and
not having my ears ring!
Cantus is a Minnesota based recording & touring group dedicated to promoting vocal music and music education. While in town they actually worked with some local school choir groups. They're fairly young men, and filled with an incredible energy and exhuberence.
What a treat live, unamplified music is. And what a reality check for reproduced sound. Their last CD, "Deep River" was recorded by Stereophile editor John Atkinson (sp?) in the very same venue I heard them in tonite. No matter what gear you have, it's impossible with current technology to capture the majesty of a great acoustic performance in a world class hall.
They sure seemed like a great bunch of guys, too. They always hang around to talk to and meet with the fans. Alas, I was really wiped out tonight, and I went straight home.
Can't wait til they perform here again. Think I'll break out "Let Your Voice Be Heard" and give it a spin.
