New to the forum and bought my first new setup. I've had a few decent setups in the past, a Denon head unit with a Denon amp pushing two KEF audio loud speakers, and a Pioneer running two Acouatic Designed studio monitors which would pop the fillament in an incandescent light bulb at high volume.

Like I said I've never had a completely
new setup. My question is, my new sub has a odd smell, I've had it for a week its not a hot
wire or cone cooking smell, and it's just not just at high volume, though I can smell it more at high volume. I have no distortion at any volume level and no I haven't taken
the receiver to its limits because I don't
want to blow my new speakers. I've read on some sites it might be a new sub smell but I'm concerned about it. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Is the smell a 'painty' smell or burning smell? If it is a smokey smell, the voice coil might be pushed too hard, and it's burning the VC adhesive. You need to turn the sub volume down if this is the case, because your sub will die very soon. If it is a paintey smell, it might be 'off-gassing' from the curing of the finish. This will just take some time for the chemicals in the cure to evaporate.
