Just auditioned the PSB Imagine T ($2K/pr)

I went to a PSB dealer in Edmond and auditioned the $2K/pr PSB Imagine T towers.

First, the room acoustics and speaker placement didn't do any favors for the PSB; I did try to improve the placement a little.

I brought along the usual suspects of songs including Hotel California, Smallville soundtrack, Deadzone soundtrack, 4400 soundtrack, and a few other songs - no classical music this time though.:D

I hear about "sweet spots" all the time, but I usually don't notice its significance. However, the first thing I noticed about the Imagine T was that once I moved out of that sweet spot, the sound-image shifted with me. For instance, when I moved to the right a little, the voice shifted from Center to Right. It didn't shift much when I moved Left though.

The Bass - I thought it had sufficient bass for music. Not as good as the BP7001/7000, Orion, Salon2, or RBH T2/P, but about the same as the Infinity P362, which is very good. I did not think it was "boomy".

The Treble - I thought the highs were clear and smooth; I didn't think it was "harsh" or "irritating".

The Midrange - I thought the midrange was also clear and smooth. The resolution and details were very good.

I listened for about 1 hour.

Overall, I would say that the Imagine T speakers are quite "fun". They did not sound "boring" or "disgusting" or "flat". They sounded realistic and just fun.

So afterwards, I went home and fired up my wimpy Denon AVR391 & lowly Infinity P362 speakers.

I listened for about 1 hr. I got out the SPL meter and set for the peak volume to be 85dBA (Hotel California & Superman). On my AVR391, it was set to -10dB. On my AVP-A1HD + AT3005, the volume is set to -18.5dB to get the peak volume to 85dBA.

I will say this - I think the Infinity P362 sitting in my family room is the best loudspeaker deal of the century @ $300/pr!

Not only did the P362s matched the Imagine T's resolution, detail, clarity, smoothness, and bass, the P362s' sound-stage and imaging was dead centered whether I moved left or right of the sweet spot.

I am extremely proud to say I own a pair of the Infinity P362! After listening to all the speakers I have listened to, I am still so impressed with the P362.

But the PSB Imagine T speakers are very good speakers and they are actually fun to listen to. I was not disappointed.

Its too bad you didn't have them in a room with good acoustics to see what they can really do. Maybe bring your 362 for a side to side comparison to more accurately assess the difference between the two

I've owned the 362 and thought they rocked, however, the plastic silver baffle and black veneer just scream cheap to me.

I am comfortable in my shallowness Mr. Alex.:p

I have to agree with Matt on this one.
In my own defense, I'll say that my shallowness runs pretty deep.:)

You decide.
Well, the money did the deciding for me but that's a striking difference esthetically and 3db is right about the side by each comparisons. I mean we all know what happens with sighted comparisons but I trust ADTG ... :D

Hotel California is a particularly good recording and it being so popular makes it a very good track to audition speakers with. I mean we all know what the next note is ... good choice. It had never occurred to me to listen to a pair of speakers for an hour. I have always taken an hour and listened to the same part of one song on several speakers. Sales people hate me because it really has only been an academic pursuit. It ain't like I'm gonna buy nothin'. ;)

Anyway all you guys with your fancy lookin' speakers are gay. :p

Hey monkey boy, don't get mad because your speakers fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.:p:D But your right, 3db does make a good point and if ADTG is able to do a side by side that would make for an interesting read of course he would have to be blindfolded and with pics to prove it.:D

I've alwayd been interested in those Infinity's. Right now I have the Athena as-f1 as front speakers and I find them bright for music and movies. Will the Infinity's be an upgrade.

They were an even better steal at $200 a pair at a Fry's BlueMoon special! Got a pair with lifetime warranty no-questions replacement for $215!

I don't think either one is good looking.

But for $2k, I would expect a lot more than $300 - $500.:D

I took the grills off the PSB, and they did not scream "HIGH-END" or "expensive".:D

But I'm not that shallow:D, so I don't hold it against either one of them.

I've never heard the Athena.

But if I were to make an educated guess, I would say, "Yes, the Infinity P362 would be an upgrade".

Since you didn't so a side by side comparison and in very disimalr environments, you really don't know how you have have or do not have in the PSBs.

Excellent !!! :D

That silver doesn't help matters any. At least with the 360's you get a solid black that doesn't draw attention to itself like the PC350 center of the xx2 series does. Jostenmeat gave me the idea to dye that silver grill and I'm thinking about covering the material on my sound panels with black grill cloth too but not for aesthetics so much as that darkness around the display thing ... and things wouldn't jump out at you ... like the silver.

With the grills on they look like any normal speaker it's with it off I not to fond of, now that the 363's are here they look good either way.

There is one thing I have to say about the Imagines, I hate the yellow driver which also has found it's way down to the new Images as well.

I don't mind the yellow but I prefer the metallic look I have of my T45s
