Cool.

California's been smoke free for years now. I LOVE it. There's nothing worse than trying to eat a meal and having to smell someone's nasty-*** cigarette. I went to Washington a few year's back and went to a restaurant that had a smoking section and it was disgusting!! Plus it's great to go out to a club and not have to come home and immediately wash your clothes because they smell like an ashtray.

I've been in Alaska for the last few days, same type of law took effect here on July 1. Maybe I'll try going into a tavern again. I got tired of throwing out my clothes after a few hours in an otherwise pleasant pastime.

You hit the nail on the head for my main reason I don't go sit in the local bar too often anymore...I got sick and tired of reeking like cigs. It was disgusting. Come home and my clothes and my skin stinks, have to take an immediate shower or my bedding would stink too...then the clothes sitting in the hamper stunk everything else up and the room the hamper happened to be in...bleh.

Nasty habbit that directly affects other people not even doing it. Ban it everywhere I say.

Yeah, America's a free country and all, and I hate to infringe on someone else's right to kill themself, but smoking's disgusting. And it's not like it just stinks in the vicinity of the smoker, that nasty smell travels HELLA far. I just don't understand why anybody does it.

I say ban smoking in ANY public area. Sorry, but if you wanna smoke, do it in your own home.

Really you think smokers should be confined to their house? I don’t smoke and I don’t really care for the effects of hanging out in a bar where smoking is allowed, but I think asking them to stay home and smoke is a little harsh.

Believe it or not I like the smell of Cigars and I like stopping for a drink at that little cigar bar around the corner from Shout House.

The growing leftist crusade against evil "big tobacco" is ludicrous. I am a non-smoker, and I believe each business owner should have the right to decide the 'smoking rules' for his own establishment. Heck.... why not hang a big sign out front proclaiming "This is a Smoking Premises: 2nd hand smoke crybabies Keep OUT". That autta' do the trick:rolleyes:

I personally think the institution of non-smoking sections in restaurants/businesses were more than enough compromise to solve the 2nd hand smoke nuisance. To infringe on the rights of others and the banning of smoking anywhere in public is another example of ignorant politics.

What about the effects of second hand smoke infringing on peoples right to life? I know there have been numerous studies that have linked second hand smoke to lung cancer with a reasonably high correlation, one high enough to be noted. Should all those who never smoked a day in their life but are dying because of cigarettes just cry about it and stay out or should their rights be taken into account too?

Also, why don't they just let everyone shoot up heroin or smoke pot, both are malum prohibitum in current societies eyes the difference is some were made illegal before the other. Its those damn leftists making all these stupid laws with their ignorant politics .

Well

even in that scenario, it's banned. I'm a reformed smoker and simply can't stand the smell of it now and my wife smokes! IMO smoke only where you don't infringe upon others. Here's an example, we were on vaction in the Carribean last Febuary and just because this country didn't have any smoking restrictions, fellow guest(a..h...smokers)decided they were within their rights to spark up beside us while we had dinner with our children:mad:. Even my wife who smokes was angry for the lack of respect smokers give non smokers and IMO it should be banned anywhere & everywhere food is been served and people are at risk.

Give me a break.... you can rarely if ever even smell smoke from non-smoking sections....let alone.....get cancer and die.

To experience any health risk or die, you'd have to spend some serious time next to and inhaling the 2nd hand smoke of a chain smoker. IE....like being married a chain smoker.

Sitting in the non-smoking section of a restaurant ain't gonna do it.

PS.......
The hypocrite anti-cigarette liberals are also the very same people who want to legalize marijuana  If you cant distinguish the difference between illegal narcotics/hallucinogens and......well, nevermind..... you're a youngin' and maybe that might explain your lack of being able to distinguish between two very different things.

A banner that says cry babies keep out may be a little harsh but it should be up to the establishment to decide whether they would like a smoking or non smoking establishment. It common sense smoking is harmful and people entering would do so at their own risk.

many bar owner took the initiative to add better ventilation and smoking rooms in their establishments, trying to cater to pressure by city officials and non smokers groups. In the end the smoking ban helped me cut down and eventually quite and likewise I hope for many more. I for one can't understand the mentally of the last two posters(considering both don't smoke) nobody was told they can't smoke, you just can't smoke where you please.;)

My highschool used to have ashtrays outside every door. And beer pull-tabs in the baseball diamond.

Kids these days... don't know what they're missing.

Remember the good ol days?

I can recall my grandpa always saying “remember when you could *fill in the blank*”. I’m only 24 but I can remember when I could ride in the back of my dad’s pick up; I can remember when I could celebrate the 4th of July with my family in the street lighting fireworks, now there are laws that say I can’t. That’s only 2 freedoms (as silly as they may sound) I can briefly recall being taken away I can only imagine the things that were taken from my grandpa.

Fireworks are legal in my burb!!

We're having a cul-de-sac fireworks party tonight:) Mortars...the bigger the better!! The only thing the city doesnt allow are rockets, but Mortars are better anyway:p They, understandably, don't want rockets raining down on residents rooftops and starting fires.

Between my family and the 3-4 others.... we'll have one hell of a show tonight. The best part is watching our kids......and the huge amount of joy in their faces!!

As a group...we always have a lot of really impressive stuff.

PS...college was a very different place when the drinking age was 18!! We used to have university organized keg floor-parties in the freshman dorms.....LOL

Do you remember when you could take a pocketknife to school?
Do you remember when your parents could spank you? In public?
Do you remember when you had to actually be impaired to get a DUI?
Do you remember when you could drive without a seatbelt?
Do you remember when there were no smog inspections on vehicles?

I have one more for the list......

Do you remember when having a 1 night stand.... the lack of protection wasn't a big deal?

Geez, I probably have a whole bunch more of those.... "Do you remember...." things.

Speaking of spanking kids in public.... do you remember when teachers could "WHACK" students with a large wooden paddle??? ....I do...LOL

I remember when teachers used to have various forms of paddles hanging on the wall inside the classroom as a deterrent for bad behavior!!! If you acted up.... teachers didn't hesitate to use it!! They'd take you into the hallway, make you reach for your knees, and crack you a good one!! Some of them drilled holes in the paddles (supposedly so they could swing them faster!!)

Aaaaaah yes.... the good old days......... before liberal PC'ness took over....back when teachers could maintain control of the classroom.
