Hi I have a system in my truck with two JL Audo amps. The larger is ( JL audio 500/1) was running 4- JL 8w3s which blew out in a year and a half. I am now looking to replace the 4 subs and being the cabinet is custom under the back seat. I need to decide on 4- 8inch subs and I was told maybe the kicker competion vr 8s would be a good choice. ( more durable and less costly) now I am thinking should I choose 4 ohm or 8 ohm.. I beleive the speakers are run in parrellel . When one burned out the one beside it couldnt function. So I have two dead speakers. Any advice on 8 subs 4 or 8 ohm or brands ect will be appreciated. Thanks

That amp will put out the same power between 1.5 and 4 ohms, so choose your subs impedance based on that. You may have better luck with reccomendations over at caraudio.com forums. Lots of good people and info over there, plus lots of great deals to be had in their classifieds section.

Just get JL W7 8" subs. Two of these will outperform the 4 x 8" subs you were using before. There is only one other 8" sub comparable to the W7, and that is the SoundSplinter RL-i 8", made by TC Sounds, but currently not available(on deep backorder). Or go with 4 of them if you want to damage your hearing. You can buy the W7 8 subs for about $250 online from discount sources. Note: the W7 8" produces more linear displacement in reality than most conventional 12" subs. You need to feed them 500 clean watts each (continous rating from amp).

500/1 and 8w7

I have 1 8w7 in a jl spec slot ported box in a ex cab s10 with a 500/1 I agree with WmAx. This sub sounds beautifull full lows and the best mids and loud as a mfer. get the w7's you will not regret it.
