Hi all..
Hey I inherited a pair of these JBL LX 2003 floorstanders. Now they're about 6-7 yrs old and I use them as my mains. They aren't particularly great in areas of imaging. Nor are they very good in high end response. Can anyone suggest how to modify them for better midrange presence and more articulate/brighter highs ?

Do you have experience working on speakers? If not, I would not recommend taking modifying as a path. The first thing I'd check is to make sure all the drivers/x-over that are in there are working correctly to start with.

It is far easier, and better, to design and build a speaker from srcatch than modify an existing one.

You can get some of this:
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=260-525
and replace egg crate foam on the walls.
You could install additional bracing in the cabinet. I've taken apart a couple of old JBL speakers and they had horribly nasal sounding under dampened boxes.
Aside from this cheap minor modifications there's very little $ sense of doing anything to them.
Build something else, there's plenty of kits and info if you search or just save and get a better pair.
