JBL Bookshelf Speakers

On another forum I was told that these were great budget speakers, JBL E-30- http://www.etronics.com/product.asp?stk_code=jble30

I mean for $110 with free shipping it seems like a good deal...Will these be good for surround speakers? I was planning on using them for the front but could probably use them for all 4 surrounds. I'll be adding a center channel and a subwoofer eventually...They will be running off a Yamaha HTR-5830. Thanks!

Not bad but let me tell you where you can get a real deal.

Circuit City is blowing out their Infinitys as they have entered into an agreement with Boston Acoustics. Circuit City is selling their Infinity Primus 150's for $69.00 each with a $30.00 mail in rebate. So you get some awesome speakers for $39.00 each. I have a pair as my front R&L in my bedroom and they are really awesome. Read reviews on them and you will see most all who have them love them.

The JBL's arent bad but I think the Infinitys are probably a little more nuetral sounding, and for $39 you can't go wrong. The only thing is hurry I am sure they wont last long.

P.S. I have had my speakers for several months so this is not a "Honeymoon" reccomendation, you will love them. Good luck and happy hunting.

Tec_41,

I do have 04 E-30's as surr./surr. back, (paired with E50's as L/R mains + an EC-35 at center) and tell you by own experience that I'm pretty happy with them. In other hand, you better hear what wafflebird said about the Infinity's though. Best bet would be to make an A/B comparison, IMO.

Cheers / Avliner.

Awesome, I checked out circuitcity.com and it said they are in stock by me so I will probably pick up 4 of them tomorrow. They only have 100w peak handling though, should that be a concern for me if I want to be able to crank it pretty loud?

You should be more concerned with underpowering them, not over. ;)

If you get that setup, you will have one SWEET setup, regardless of price.

Let us know

Good to hear they are in stock, the way they are selling them they will be out of stock soon. Man they have the BetaC250 on sale for like $129, it is usually a $250 + speaker but they don't have any around me so I would have to have it shipped. You will be impressed with the 150's and when you think about what you paid for them you will like them even more.

Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ha ha I just got home from CC..The first store had 2 in stock and the price was $52 each with no rebate so I was like wtf, I don't have that much cash on me. So I showed the guy in the store what the online price was and he just saw $39.95...So the sales manager told him to give them to me for $39.95 each when it should have been $59.95 with a $20 mail in rebate. I did have to go to another store to pick up 2 more so I ended up buying out the 2 stores lol. Good timing...

I have them hooked up to my Z-680's at the moment and they sound amazingly clear, but put out zero bass since the 680's sattelites aren't supposed to. I'll let you know how I like them when my 5830 arrives :D Thanks again!

I predict that you are going to enjoy them very much. But you will want a sub. They only go down to around 58 Hz. Mids, highs and the base they have are very clear.

Yup, sub is my next addition for sure...I am a total bass freak! So what are the suggestions for a sub? Price range would have to be under $350, preferably around $300. I want bass with authority lol :D

You will find many options here http://www.************.com/webpage.cfm?&DID=7&WebPage_ID=259

Dayton makes some nice components.
This one would be killer for under $300 http://www.************.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=300-770

This one gets great reviews: http://www.************.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=300-760

Not sure why the links come out that way here. Just go to google and type in parts express. Go to the "Home A/V" link at the top. Then down to subwoofer headquarters on the lower right. Home subwoofers is on the left, go a little down from there and hit kits, or finishes subs if you can't turn a screw and like to pay extra. Poke around a bit. You'll find lots to play with.

Hmm, how is the Infinity PS-10? It fits my budget nicely...

The PS-10 is an OK sub for a small to medium room.

My biggest knock against JBL (when it comes to their bookshelf speakers anyway) has always been the cost to performance ratio. The price you guys are getting them for makes them a GREAT buy IMO. Up here in Canada those E30's were around $300-$350 a pr. I got my PSB 2B's for the same price. I had the 30's in my house and I have to say I didn't hate them, but they were no 2B's. For $100 though they are a real deal.

Agreed. I got my C-1ws for 200, and I would put them up against any speaker featuring a 5inch woofer. Athena speakers have gone downhill IMO, and mirage is a totally different sound. I haven't heard any PSB speakers, but I've heard good things about them. Often compared to Energy. There isn't many deals like this in Canada.

Welp I just got my receiver today...The speakers sound GREAT! I couldn't be any happier :D. My Infinity PS-10 is on the way. This is all going in my bedroom btw, so it's pretty small and I thought that sub would fill the lows nicely.
