Thought I give it a try and download some new workout music for my Lyra MP3 player.

First off, everything downloaded is in M4P format.

Googled a bit and found if you rip everything to CD then back to your computer it will convert to MP3. Okay, stupid but sounds easy enough.

Started up Itunes and this message shows up. "The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other cd burning software. Please reinstall iTunes."

So I reinstall iTunes...same damn message. Try to burn the playlist anyways, nothing.

Google more and find out iTunes 5 is bugged and they haven't corrected this yet.

So now I got all this new music and can't even listen to it other than on my laptop.

I'd recommend Windows Media Player 10 and Napster, or one of the 10 other music services integrated into the player, instead. That is, if your Lyra can play WMA music. If not, you would still have to burn to CD's first.

I don't like Itunes at all. That is the reason I am not going to buy an Ipod and instead will go with a Creative Zen Micro. The Zen will work with all my music, which is in WMA format.

I'd recommend www.allofmp3.com

The best thing since sliced bread! MP3's for 2 cents per megabyte (translation, about a buck an album in 128 kbs).

Matt34...

What operating system are you running on your laptop? What CD burning software do you have installed?

I know there can be problems if you're running roxio's DirectCD when you try to use iTunes to burn songs.

I'm using iTunes 5 right now, and just burnt a test CD with no problems...so its probably an imcompatibility with something your laptop is running that's causing issues.

I am running XP and have Sonic Record Now and Windows Movie Maker for recordable programs.

Don't you know? Itunes only works on macs :p

I don't like this pay for downloads thing. Just buy the cd and rip to computer. You will probly find more songs you like in the process.

Okay, unfortunately, it seems you're right. Lots of people are having problems with iTunes 5. (and you're not the only one not getting response from Apple)

From this article, it sounds like there is some incompatibility with certain drives.

There is a support forum here that just deals with the lack of support. It also has a couple of links to other discussions about the burning problem and some possible hacks.

One option (Legal disclaimer: I do not advocate nor use this method myself :) ) is to find one of the many articles on how to remove the content protection. Supposedly once you do that and install an AAC codec, you can play these files in Windows Media Player and then burn them to CD as you like.

Finally got it working by using a decoder program called Jhymn.

Will never use Itunes again.

^^^ What they said. I've bought close to 20gb of mp3's at 320kbs, about $2.25/album for near CD quality music. They also offer multiple formats, so much of their library is available in formats like OGG for the purists.

Are SONY/EMI/BMG still making copy-protected CDs that iTunes can't recognize?

I agree whole heartedly. I think most players out there have superior features and quality than iPods and I think iTunes is horrible. My personal belief is the only reason they are so popular was a very good ad campaign and then people just figured it was the best thing out there because everyone had one.

I love the WMA format and I hope microsoft doesnt give up on it.
