I have a pioneer vsx-23 and think I have a defective unit. I sent it into Pioneer and they are telling me it's working correctly but I have had other pioneer receivers and had never experienced problems like this. I need some input.
First off the receiver is supposed to be know for amping all output channels exactly the same. CD's, radio, and Sirius play loud at about -55. When I switch to Blue ray or cable I vary between about -23 and -32 for normal listening. Which brings me my second issue. Every time I play a Blue ray movie the comfortable listing volume varies. Same with cable TV. I have actually taken this receive into positive territory (+ 10) to watch a movie and TV. The receiver has also turned off on me on several occasions. I got on the phone with Pioneer tech support and they did a system reset. Since then I have been ranging at about the -23 to -32 sound level that I mentioned before and I haven't had the receiver shut down on me in the last month that I got it back for Pioneers service center (The one that told me nothing was wrong with the unit). I still do not understand why I am getting the sound variations.
Has anyone had, or heard of any similar problems? Anyone know what could be causing the problems? Is this what I'm supposed to expect from this receiver? I only found th Post that I am attaching bellow, when I was researching, but the link is broken:

I use either optical or HDMI for audio and the volume level is difference for each one. Example: the CD, iPod, and AM/FM Tuner is much louder than my Blueray and Cable Box (HDMI). …
