Isn't it time for stereo 3D???

Good movies in 3D are probably not too far off. Both Robert Rodriguez and George Lucas are *very* interested in some of the new 3D technologies, and Lucas has already stated his intention to remaster the entire Star Wars series in 3D. (Whatever you think about the content, you know it won't suck from a technical standpoint.)

Here's something that's occurred to me in the last month. At EEE in May, the next generation of gaming consoles were introduced. The Playstation 3 will supposedly have 2 HDMI outs. I'm sure the initial intent of this is to drive 2 different TVs for head-to-head non-split-screen gaming. But couldn't some clever game developers set each HDMI out to display the POV of each eyeball, sell you a special cable and headset to give each of your eyes its own HD LCD? Makes me kinda wish I was a game developer.

3D-TV will become reality soon!

I saw the discussion and liked your comments. I am acutally working in a start-up that has a real-time algorithm to bring 2 view (stereo) content on autostereoscopic displays with several views (e.g. 8 or 12). Further more, most of the large LCD manufacturers are working on LCD displays that are 2D/3D switchable. This means that in the future you byu your new FPD TV with an 3D Option. The missing part are good movies, as you have mentioned before. But once we can demonstrate Hollywood that the technology is working, they will start shooting in stereo.

Does anyone have a list of stereo movies that exist today (and that are planned)?

For major releases that have 3D versions, the only ones I can think of recently have been...

"Polar Express" which had an Imax 3D release (polarizing)
"Spy Kids 3-D" (not sure of technology used)
many Imax-specific films like Nascar, Ghosts of the Abyss, and such

Of course there are the old red/blue "classics" like...

"Jaws 3-D" which will hopefully be forgotten in the mists of time

Disney is planning to release "Chicken Little" in 2D and 3D versions and is equipping almost 100 theaters with Dolby's Digital Cinema solution to distribute it.

There's actually a searchable database at http://www.stereoscopy.com/database/movies.html

Didn't George Lucas say he was going to start working on all the Star Wars movies for 3D presentation? I thought he was talking about having Episode IV ready for 2007 or 2008. If Lucas makes a ton of money again by releasing all these movies over in 3D, you know all the studios will be hot on his heels to do the same exact thing. It won't take much to get the ball rolling.
