That's a trick question. As long as the cable box supports HDCP and the receiver can act as a repeater then there should be no problems. BUT, some cable boxes have issues with a receiver in the middle acting as a repeater. Those problems are becoming fewer and fewer now so there shouldn't be a problem. With HDMI, you just never know until you try it.

I was at a clients house today who had that exact problem. SA 8300HD box to a pioneer elite reciever and finally a panasonic plasma. Got HDCP error when going hdmi to reciever and hdmi to tv. Once i turned the TV off the sound came on

Ended up just hooking his DVDp up via HDMI and the cable box via component. Tried to run HDMI from the cable box to the tv and then a toslink from the cable box to the reciever but it wouldnt output any audio that way either.

I am still pretty bitter with HDMI myself. Not worth the hassle to me. I would rather just use component that works everytime!

thanks for the advice. My hdmi cables should be in Monday from Monoprice. I'll try it out and post the results.
