Hello,
I am brand new to this forum so I apologize in advance if this post is terribly miscategorized or against policy.

I just bought a bunch of stereo equipment from a yard sale and I was wondering if anyone here could tell me about it a bit more. (I don't know where to look so I went to an audiophile forum).

-PHILIPS 212 ELECTRONIC TURNTABLE
-KENWOOD KT-5300 AM/FM TUNER
-KENWOOD AMP. KA-701
-YAMAHA SPEAKERS NS-690 (DOUBLE SET)
-KENWOOD KX-1030 CASSETTE TAPE DECK
-SPECTRO EQUALIZER

Pictures are on photobucket, and since I can't post links, you can go there and search for user "agentmm" and scope out my "STEREO" album. (if you wanted to see the pieces)

Is this tuner, amp and speaker set pretty awesome? expensive (approximate value)? neither?

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I believe it's from the 70's. It's decent, but not expensive or rare. It should serve well as a basic stereo system for someone starting out with stereo, going to college, or even in a garage.

They are not "collectors items" and don't command high dollars today, though.

Oh, ok....thanks alot for the reply.
I was thinking the Yammy speakers were pretty decent and the futuristic Scandinavian turntable seemed crazy too.....I paid like 50 bucks for all of it...

Not to burst your bubble but Philips is Dutch. Regardless, about the only thing I would recommend doing immediately is getting a can of Caig contact cleaner and lubricant (one of each- they're not the same) so you, or someone else can clean all of the controls and switches. Use the plastic tube to get into the controls- you'll see a slot where the wires connect. If it's extremely dusty inside, use compressed air and a dry paint brush to clean it out.

If the turntable is belt driven, you can still get a replacement. Don't pay an arm & a keg for it, regardless of what the store says. Ten to fifteen bucks should do it or if you have the time, look online for one.
