Just wondering if there is a decent 5 channel amp for under $500 that will handle 4 ohm speakers?

Adam Audioholic Jedi Feb 14, 2009 #2 Hi. I just want to make sure that we're all on the same page, as some people say "amp" and mean "receiver." Are you asking about an external amplifier and not a receiver? Also, how much power are you wanting per channel?

Emotiva has some fans here. I have never used their products but would give it a trial if I were buying one. An alternative might be an Onkyo 806. It's a receiver with 50lbs of weight and lots of drive. But it does require the space and ventilation you would expect from a beast receiver.

Adam Audioholic Jedi Feb 14, 2009 #5 Even Emotiva is pressed at that price point, but they can come close. The UPA-7 is $599 + $25 shipping. They rate it at 140W/channel when driving five channels into 8 ohms, and at 225 W/channel when driving five channels into 4 ohms.
