Is there a avr that can provide stereo with 4 speakers

Music is what I listen to 99.9% of time with the Denon 1912...2 SVS Prime Towers, haven't pulled the trigger on the sub yet until I audition the Rythmik F12 which SVS 2000 & HSU VTF-15H MK2 is part of the decision making and I trust reports from you guys about Rythmik, was curious about weather or not is there a avr that has a setup for stereo to play 4 speakers, I know this inquiry is off base so I opened the door on the bomb shelter...LOL

just messing around I've set my avr to 5 channel stereo and turned off the center, but I dont know if that's true 4 channel stereo. I never really use it. I just listen to music in 2 channel stereo.

I really don't know that much about it, but I guess there are certain amps, if not receivers, that will do it, but yeah... me saying any more will just show how little I know. lol

I'm gonna lurk in your thread now and wait for everyone to tell you 4 channel stereo will mess up your imaging and soundstage...

There is no thing called 4 channel stereo. Stereo is 2 channel. 4 speakers and you would have multi channel stereo and this will mess up the stereo image, quite many avr allow multichannel stereo, it takes the stereo sound and makes it sound from all speakers connected.

I've had the SVS Prime Towers for 2 months now and hearing sounds from some really old cd's that I never heard before, happy has a kid with a handful of lollipops which now l'm leaning towards getting 2 more but I have to figure out how to get through customs with them (The Wife) other wise I'll have to pay what it will cost for 4, after the brake in period with the 2 I have, I became curious to how they would sound with 4 in stereo...

I would love a pair of those ultras. the towers are out of my budget though. I do have the svs ultra bookshelf speakers on my wish list though. I think my subs will make up for most of the extension lost in speaker size. I will own a pair... eventually.

They're really nice, close friend of mine has the ultra 5.1 setup nothing short of fantastic sound, he was and I say he was a movie buff but now listens to music about 80% of the time now, the bass that the ultra towers produce is poetry to my ears.

ever since I upgraded my subs to svs I've been listening to a lot more music. probably more so than watching tv/movies. I'm very lucky my wife is very accommodating. if you remember, I picked up a pair of svs sb 1000's around the same time you got your towers.

I'm so impressed with them I'm sure I'll be equally impressed with their bookshelf speakers. right now I have deftech studiomonitor 55's and I'm not unhappy with them. it's a long story, but I ended up paying 180 for the pair. and they're really not bad. they certainly don't sound terrible. from everything I've read and comments in here though, the ultras would be a significant step up.

Stereo isn't really defined as 2ch, just what stuck; there was a 3ch version as well (and both developed for movies). Even multi-ch audio is stereo.

OTOH you'd need some slight modifications for 2ch stereo music to be done well in 4ch via matrixing as you do with surround sound (plus there was Quad for a bit). Mostly by simply adding speakers to only 2ch processing you'd likely encounter more issues than worthwhile but then again many do just use a pair of speakers for each channel of a 2ch setup and are very happy....

All receivers that I know of from major manufacturers have a 5 channel stereo or 7 channel stereo, where left is played to all the left speakers, and right is played to all the right speakers. You can leave out the center channel, or any other speakers you would like in your original setup, otherwise the left/right will be mixed to the center channel.

You can also apply any of the ten million effects that some manufacturers (Yamaha) offer to play through all your speakers, but if you just have four speakers, then the receivers will all handle it.

I have an NAD T758 7.1 AVR and it has one mode that many of my visitors find intriguing for music. It their "Enhanced Stereo" mode. It can be configured with or without the center speaker, I chose the latter. When I use it, people are quite surprised at how it seems to maintain some semblance of stereo while filling the room far more than just the two main L-R speakers can on their own.

You'd have to hear it to know if it's what you're looking for. Of course it has the usual Dolby PLII Music and PLII Movie, and other surround modes too. I happen to like that Enhanced Stereo because it definitely puts out more through the surrounds than the surround modes do.

And BTW, my previous receiver was also a Denon AVR1912. My son uses that for now in his 7.1 system and it's still good.

that was my understanding. you would need to decode(?) the signal differently for it to sound right. I thought I had read about an esoteric amp or 2 that would decode for 3 or 4 channel stereo for music? I'm assuming it was either too expensive or not quite right and didn't really take off.

Upgrading speakers rather than adding more of the same is the proper route to improving your sound quality.
The music is recorded in stereo ... play it back using two speakers!

I recall several weeks ago when the comparisons between stereo & Dolby PLll Music was being discuss and to some there wasn't a difference between the 2 while others disagreed, which it came to one's preference.
