Is surround better in 5ch than 7?

I sometimes use the 7ch all stereo mode when listening to FM radio or CDs but mostly 2 ch stereo as the bass sounds better through my 2 subs.
For TV and movies I use the PrL11X-M music mode rather than PL11X- C cinema or Neo 6
Apparently the cinema mode doesn't channel as much volume to the surround rears in cinema as compared to Music.

THX Movie mode and Dolby ProLogic Music mode both redirect more audio to the back-surround speakers than to the surround speakers, while Cinema mode sends the same audio to both. This is described on their Web sites.
