1 dual layer release per month, looks like they'll be playing catchup for a while

Anyone have pricing?
Looks like they are in the same price as their single layer releases. If the process is working correctly, it should be about twenty or thirty cents in actual cost difference between the two sizes (BD25 vs. BD50) Superman Returns is listed as a lower MSRP by WB on Blu-ray 50GB vs. the 30GB release on HD-DVD. hmmmm

Since it took them so long to get it to work, it'll be interesting to see how compatible and reliable they are for the end user
I'm not sure on what planet 3 months is 'so long' but yes, it will be interesting to see if they are 100% reliable. We'll find out soon enough. Once 50GB production is golden and more disc pressing lines come online, 50GB could very much be the norm.

Won't make the video quality any better.
You mean doubling disc capacity won't make them twice the quality of HD-DVD discs? I mean, as it is, there are no Blu-ray discs from WB that use VC-1 encoding that are reported to look ANY different than their HD-DVD counterparts - so I am SURE you aren't lost on the first releases that Blu-ray put out. This site has been so good about avoiding people who get stuck on initial quality control issues.
I'm personally excited to see what HD bonus features will be included and to see how well the full video transfer rate is utlized by Blu-ray studios. It seems like from day one BD50 discs were expected to be the norm and that their software was designed to maximize quality around that size. It will be interesting to see if quality actually IS improved upon from the newly improved high levels that have been delivered as of late.
EDIT: As of 10/10 and the people who have 'CLICK!' I have yet to read one person saying that their Blu-ray player has been unable to play the disc back fine. Not at AVS or Blu-ray.com are there issues.
