Is Sharp Downgrading their Quality?

I recently purchased a Sharp 45" LCD 1080P display. I've been talking about getting an LCD for my bedroom for over a year and finally pulled the trigger in April. But I was looking at the new 45" that Sharp just came out with and thought the cabinet looked pretty cheap. But the price has dropped significantly to around $3,300 so it appears they are trying to be more competitive in the market place. While looking at the specs of the new set I noticed that the contrast ratio has increased and the refresh rate has gotten faster. But then I noticed the new set is only 720P! So it appears they have lowered the resolution of the set to increase the refresh rate and contrast ratio. The 720P resolution should look better with SD while the 1080P set will only look marginally better with HD. Anybody read anything about this? Is Sharp getting cheap on us??? Here's links to more info:

I don't think so. I believe it's just the model you purchased. If you look at their website, there are two other 45" models available w/the higher resolution. As well as their 57" and 65" screens. (WOW!) Those other models may be from last year, but I'm betting that they're still available while their replacements are enter the line up for this year. It's all up to you, if you like it, keep it. If not refund it. But I'm betting that 45" of Flat-screen goodness is looking pretty sweet on your bedroom wall. :D

Did you read my post??? I have a 1080P set. Anyway, what I forgot to mention is the other 45" sets with 1080P capability have been discontinued even though they are still posted on Sharp's website. So I guess the only 45" available after current inventory is gone is the 720P version. Better run out and grab the 1080P sets before they are all gone.

Or maybe they can't put all their eggs in one basket. Either they can't produce a 1080p panel with high contrast, fast response time or their just creating different niches in the market place.

Right you are. I'm going back and forth watching the NBA finals on the Sharp and my Toshiba 56" WS HDTV and it looks better on the Sharp.
