Is pay pal a safe bet also if one does not want to extend credit card info to E-Bay ?
Just wondering about this.
If I use paypal, its with a credit card, I despise that company, and wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them...

But sometimes you don't have a choice

Using ebay is quite a bit more risky than using an online dealer like Crutchfield. Even using Crutchfield can be risky on occasion. I've read of nightmareish situations occurring on ebay (people buying something and not receiveing it, or it was broken/damaged when they recieved it, then they couldn't track down the seller who is actually selling from Siberia instead of Oklahoma). If I were you, I'd not use them for any thing over a couple of hundred dollars, that way, if you do run into an issue, it's no major loss.

I'm with the monkey. I have done a few ebay deals, but mostly local. Whenever you buy used, there is always a chance you get screwed, even buying local.

i would say yes its safe to buy speakers off of ebay.

just google the brand name and model if you are not familiar with them, also pay very close attention to the sellers feedback. if they dont have much or are not close to 100% positive.. then you might browes through their feed back ratings and read why they are not getting positve from their buyers.

if they have good feedback and they have decent pics and good descriptions then go for it. also look at www.audiogon.com this site specializes in higher end audio equipment.
avoid ebay!! go with other online retaliers even if you have to spend a couple of bucks more...;)

I have bought on e-bay a few times with mixed results. I have also bought used from Spearit sound. I think they are in WI??

But they have either a 90 or 30 day warranty and they have a website. They sell some high end stuff and it has somewhat of a warranty.

I'd say that no matter what the brand is on the outside, there is always the chance that the inside has been tampered with. Of course, only truly unscrupulous people would do this.

Ebay transactions are only as safe as you feel they are. Wow, really deep...

I use E-Bay a lot and have had no problems because I pratice safe high risk transactions. Check out their history-if none or not much or spotty or not in a long time then don't. Also I use a dedicated CC to do the purchases that is bank linked to a dedicated account that has nothing in it unless I put something in it. The dedicated CC or debit has it's on protection against merchandise and service issues. Check with your local bank and see what their policys are. If they say "your on your own" then find another bank or CC.

I believe its safe if you trust the seller

I just bought recently a pair of Polk TSI speakers from their ebay store and got a great deal!! They also came with a three year warranty even though they were supposedly "open box". when they came the boxes seemed to never have been opened. I have also known some one who bought a pair of B&W 601 speakers from Ebay and had a great experiance with the seller.. I would just recommend that you make sure the seller has positive ratings and that their feedback is not the same thing for every purchase (possibility of scam)
