Is safe to buy A/V Receivers in Pawn shops?. I am seeing hundred of Expensive and good brands units at good reduced prices but I am not known if this is a good way to buy. Where The Units Come? The sellers told me that they can to test to verify that the unit works but We known that there are a many functions into the receiver. The problem on all pawn shops is that they do not manage the full refund on return policies.
Anybody can tell your experience?
Thanks In advance

Welcome to the forum!

I believe that a member here, Seth=L, has purchased electronics from pawn shops. He hasn't been on in a couple of days, but he'll probably be back soon.

I'd say that it's the same risk that you take whenever you buy something used. At least with a pawn shop, you can return it. I've never been in a pawn shop, so I can't speak from personal experience, though.

I have bought five stereo amps in pawn shops and a mint condition Kenwood 4090b multi channel reciever that is still being used daily by my parents at a pawn shop (thing is a hefty workhorse that I used for years before upgrading) I have gotten awesome high end gear for very cheap. Bought a B&K stereo amp for 80.00 and a H/K Citation 16 amp for 80.00 along with an Adcom 535 stereo amp for 80.00. The Kenwood retailed for 1,200 and I picked it up for 100.00 it even smelled brand new.

But be warned, with Pawn shops you cannot return it for your money back, they will allow you to exchange it for another item of same price or take what you put into the first item into the cost of the second and you have 30 days to do this. I have had great luck buying speakers, amps and other high end gear for pennies on the dollar at pawn shops.

Also any reputable pawn shop will have a pair of speakers on hand that you can hook up to test the receiver out on. Actually the best deal I ever got at a pawn shop was I walked in about a year ago and they had three AR Phantom 8.2 speakers that retailed new for 1,250/pair, I got the pair and center for 75.00 Then a few months ago I walked back into the same pawn shop and they had another 3 AR Phnatom set for sale (this time the larger center and surround 6.2 speakers got those for 75.00 also. A buddy at S&Vision sent me a pair of AR 8.2 and stands for free, so I now have a 7.1 setup that retailed for well over 4,000 for 150.00 in my master bedroom, so I can vouche if you are patient and look around you can find some great deals.

A buddy at S&V who lives in aother state found a missing remote for my Denon 4802 that retailed for 400.00 replacement cost in a pawn shop and mailed it to me for what it cost him. $5.00

Isiberian, what made it all the better was each speaker was also in mint condition, I checked every driver and even the grill cloth on each speaker looked new. I have pictures posted in "Members System Gallery" but here's a link. The pics are in the second set of images labelled "Master Bedroom system" and you can see thay are in mint condition. I also bought the DCM sub pictured in the Master Bedroom from a pawn shop for 100.00 it has dual 12" drivers and 150 watt amp. I took out the DCM drivers and replaced them with my extra SVS ISD 12" drivers when I upgraded to NSD drivers. As you can see the condition of the sub is also in excellant condition.

I also bought two pair of Deftech BP10's for 400.00 that I sold for 800.00 and used that money to cover half the cost of my BP7001sc

Eevery weekend I visit the five pawn shops in my neighborhood and they all know me on a first name basis and even hold stuff in back if they think I may buy it. With the economy the way it is, I have noticed more and more higher end gear being brought to pawn shops and would advise anyone to check out a few, you may be surprised at what is in there. Always remember to haggle on price and they are also pretty good at trading in your old gear and using that towards the cost of newer gear. A buddy of mine bought a nice Rotel Preamp and Rotel five channel amp for 350.00 at a pawn shop.

In the Master Bedrrom pictures you will see a six channel Kenwood THX certified amp hooked up to my Denon 3808. I also bought that one at a pawn shop for 100.00
