Is it time to let Star Wars go?

This is a question I am posing because I still semi-regularly see articles on movie websites about Star Wars. It has been 35 years and people are still dissecting A New Hope. Really??

I am so sick of hearing about Star Wars minutia that it makes me gag. When can we move on with our lives already??!!

I am not talking about the obvious press it gets when a version comes out on Blu-ray or DVD or whatever. I mean simple stuff like this.

Anyway, I am expecting a few death threats based on this blasphemy. Let me have it I guess. It feels good just to get this off my chest even if no one agrees with me . . .

It's time to let over-the-top fanaticism go, for sure. I'll never stop being a nerd for whom Star Wars changed his life.

But yeah, point taken. I feel no more or less a "fan" because I couldn't tell you the answer to some obscure factoid about the movies. I really don't care.

Funny... a group of friends back in the 90s were wayyyy into Star Trek. I mean, they had Trek personas and went to festivals in costume etc. Which to me is cool, everyone's gotta have a hobby.

Me: "Hey, did you see XYZ movie that came out recently? It's pretty cool!"
Trek Costumer: "No, I'm already into enough things between Star Trek and Dr. Who."

Me (to myself): Damn, it's just a movie, you don't need to buy the t-shirt, bumper-sticker, join the club and reenact scenes just to enjoy a good movie.

But hey, who am I to judge... everyone's got a hobby.

While I'm on the Star Trek bashing... one more thing...

Okay, so guys/girls are dressing up as Starfleet officers. I happened to have been in the military myself and I know there are required levels of fitness to even be an officer, let alone a front-line, redshirt or combat-ready Klingon or Security Chief. But do you ever notice that it's difficult to find someone at one of those conventions that isn't obese?

I'm not being judgmental or mean. But hey, if you're going to role-play a military organization it wouldn't hurt to throw in a bit of combat readiness fitness training. Think of knocking off about 30 lbs as part of your costume.

If I can try my hardest to ignore kids with their underwear showing and their pants to their knees then I think you can ignore Star Wars Fanatics. Something annoys someone.....somewhere......at some time.
