Seriously, I have no life.
I agree, me thinks the OP just didn't know what he really had.

Here is a cable shoot out from Audioholics, with some Cat5. If anyone's so inclined.

I had so many spools of Cat 5 & 6 left over from jobs, I was almost tempted to braid some after reading about the cable shoot out. I'm a sucker for DIY stuff, I guess it's a sickness...:D

Amen brother, ain't it the truth!
If you have partial boxes, why not cut it to usable lengths, terminate them with RJ-45 and sell them on Craig's list? Otherwise, you could have sold them to a scrap dealer when copper was high. You could even sell the partial boxes on Craig's-I have to think a lot of people don't need a whole box and end up cobbling it all together instead of doing it the right way.

While we're at it, we could write a book called "Using wire scraps, for fun and profit".

Have you been talking to my wife? She's good at giving me work to do.:D

After jobs I strip and fill a 55 gallon drum with scrap wire, mostly 500 and 750 MCM. It weighs around 8lbs a foot, and $3.60 to $3.90 a pound for striped bright copper (in 2006 -07) it's a nice pay off. They don't pay as much for unstriped wire.

haha its definitely not CAT 5

It's for sure Romex. Not Cat 5, 6, or 7. Sucks, and sounds retarded for someone to wire it with that, but apparently in 1993-1994 area, the electrician felt it would be a cheap and good way to use up all the excess house wiring. Each volume whole in the house has at least 2 romex ends coming through it. Then a couple sections where they routed 4. You should see the main port where all the wires combine to input in the Distributor or Reciever. Its an entire closet dedicated to a HUGE Romex monster. A crap load of romex ends, all labelled with old cracking yellow tape of which room it is wired to. Its a headache to look at, but actually quite funny. Especially listening to all the comments about how hard it is to organize and use. My thought is to buy some type of 2 channel amp to connect to the Reciever, then a distributor, hopefully able to organize the wires better and make the job a little easier. Maybe the Amp will help carry the signal across the house better. I dunno. Just an idea i was reading on some websites. The 12 channel amps that would be ideal are WAY TOO insanely expensive.
