Is it me or the Denon 3805

I am having problems with my reciever lowering the max. volume levels.
I have been told that it is something I'm doing in the settings, but my little brain isn't figuring out what I'm doing. I've had the max volume go as low as
-7 db on 7.1 stereo and -1.5 db on surround. I really don't see anything that I"m doing to cause these settings to change. If I reset the reciever everthing goes back to default. I was also told the reciever is protecting itself by alocating power. This one I have a hard time believing.
Anyone have similar issues?
Contacting denon is a joke.

I've noticed something similar, if not exactly, to what you are refering. It may have something to do with your speaker calibrations. If you have increased the speaker output by X amount, the max volume output will decrease in relation to it. I don't know if its a direct relationship or not, I did not pay that close attention to it. When I ran multiple calibration tests setting the output level at 75db then 85db, I noticed the max volume level changed.

Hope that helps.

Check your room EQ settings. I suspect you have a lot of boost on your speakers which will IIRC take away the max gain potential. This is a good thing.

I no longer have the 3805 so I'm a bit limited in my ability to support it.

eq settings

I'll have to look when I go home tonight...yes I view this at work, don't tell...but I don't think I have done anything to those since the last reset.
I guess I'll reset and check the max levels after every change to narrow it down.

So you do the setup, master volume on zero, each speaker level set between 75&80db? EQ off. Compression off If thats what its called. Your doing it with a RS meter?

might be the problem

I'm doing everything you mentioned except setting the master to zero.
I"ll try that. I am using a RS meter with the Rives CD2.
Do I really know what I'm doing? Thats very questionable

If you use the test tones on the reciever,it auto puts master volume on zero.
