Dual 15" subs

AV123 will be selling their upcomming MFW-15, 15" ported subs two for $1000. Might be a good alternative to the DIY dayton project for more SPL and a lower tuning frequency than the single SVS.

Thanks JC but if I do not go DIY I will have that "what if" feeling. I can do the whole DIY setup for about $880.00 including materials. I know I will build a better enclosure than they offer as well. I appreciate your response though.

I completely agree and thanks for the tip on the dayton.

What then makes a sub have a certain natural frequencey then? I thought excursion was part of that...
=/
I believe that (Fs) to be a product of surface area and mass along with excursion. There may be some other factors as well. The JL Audio 12W7 has an FS of 27hz or so I believe. It has a lot more excursion capability that the Dayton.

yeah that's exactly what I mean because the dayton Fs is 19 in a 15" and with such low excursion..... ah well.

I get so confused lol

The Fs is the free air resonance of the woofer.
The larger the surface area and heavier the mass the lower the Fs.

With a the large surface area a 15" woofer has it does not need a tremendous amount of excursion to hit high spl's or play low frequencies. The xmax on the Reference HF 15" is 14mm or just over 1/2" one way linear. You can add 10% to that for usable range resulting in 1.23" of peak to peak excursion with a 15" driver. That will move some serious amounts of air. Sure it is not the excursion king but it is still quite good considering it's size not to mention price.

you said it man. price really plays big time. i could do a system with 4 15" daytons instead of 2 18" Fi Q's.. which was the winner in cost/performance I wanted especialy with how nice the guys over there are!

Now I have been looking at dayton and this other SDX 15" .....

I just wish they came in 18's lol
