Is a Velodyne VA806 any good?

I currently have no subwoofer. I was looking at a low cost solution to get started. Is a Velodyne VA806 any good? I can get it for $30.

I currently have AV123 x series across the front with some JBL 4408 for surrounds. The room is large.

Does anyone have any experience with this sub?

That is a 8 inch sub with a 6 inch radiator. It will not do very much in a large room. What is a realistic budget for your sub?

The budget is basically nothing right now. Do you think it would add nothing? I find that hard to believe because going from my 2.0 to a 5.0 setup has made a huge difference in bass. Even with the small drivers on the bookshelfs.

If you can get it for $30 then do it. It will at the very least be a start....:D I don't think it will do much for the room but it will add some low end to your system.

$30 is cheap for any subwoofer. I paid $15 for a powered Magnavox subwoofer (came from a home theater in a box system from a thrift store. It has a 6.5" woofer and a 100 watt plate amp. It seems to do much better than any PC subwoofer I've ever heard, and was used in my PC's sound system with my Teac CD/receiver and Boston Acoustics CR57 speakers. It was a very decent set up.:D

Pickup it up today. It is supposed to be in working order. I will "review" this in a few days.

Foam failed on the active woofer

The Foam failed on the active 6" woofer. Otherwise it seems to be in good condition (It sounded good until I started to turn up the volume).

So now this is a refoam project. I found a kit at decware.com for $40 shipped. Is that reasonable?

Also I did check the radiator. The foam on the radiator seems to be in good shape (it even seems to be different foam, maybe that one was already replaced).

I found a local repair shop that will do the job for cheaper than the kit

I have the VA-907 which is the 8inch version that was given to me by my brother. It had a bad driver in it which I called Velodyne and ordered a new driver which was only $50.00 from them direct. Did you try Velodyne to see if they still carry any parts for this? It my be cheaper then refoaming. Parts Express has some 5 1/4 and 6 1/2 sub drivers but not any 6 inch drivers to replace it with.

I think I will let the repair shop look at it

The repair shop price is $30 for the refoam. I will try to contact velodyne to see if they have a replacement woofer.
