IR Repeater System (from 90s)

We just moved and the house we purchased has a lot of in-wall wiring. In the family room, everything is wired with in-wall and ceiling, and a A/V closet in back. There is an "eyeball" for a IR Repeater System, with wiring back to the A/V closet. But we can't figure out how to hook it up. The wiring itself is baffling - it is a grey wire containing a coated red, coated black and exposed silver wire. Can anyone assit us in determining how we can use this?

If i were to hazard a guess (and it really is a guess), that would be power+, power-, and signal. If I'm right the repeater base will either have a built in power supply for the remote-receiver and a signal input, or may just accept the signal requiring an external power supply.
