Lutron

I'm using them in my home theater.
You can buy Lutron Spacer line:
http://www.lutron.com/spacer/SpSystemDefault.asp?s=17000&t=17100

or the less expensive Lutron Maestro IR line:
http://www.lutron.com/maestroir/default.asp?s=17000&t=17200

The Maestro line is available at Home Depot and Lowes.

With the Maestro line there is two available channels so you can control two different circuits in the same room separately. In my case I'm using a Pronto Pro for my remote with the Pronto IR repeater that transmits the signal to the switch location for two Maestro switches/circuits. They work great! Nothing like being able to dim the room lights and start the movie from your seat. It will make an impression on your guests.

One of those Lutron dimmers is on my list of 'things I'd like to do when I get around to it'.

So do the Lutron dimmers come with an IR remote that you can then use to teach your universal remote? I would assume so if you programmed the Pronto to control the lights, but wanted to make sure.

Seriously, I have no life.

yes Lutron puts an ir remote in w/ their ir switches. I've had the lutron spacer in my bedroom for 7 years, now I can't imagine not having it! It's great.

You see most of us get the beer before we sit down for the movie. The lights are an afterthought so it would be nice to be able to dim them from the remote just before you hit play. :D

I have modified a Lutron IR dimmer remote so that I can simply connect it to a plug attached to my brain. Once I sit down to watch a movie, this saves me from even having to lift my finger to hit the button on the remote to dim the lights. All I have to do is think "boy, I sure wish the lights were dimmed" and, instantly, my modified brain-connected module is able to read my thoughts and execute the dimming sequence. It is the ultimate in simplicity.

You guys who have to hit a button on your remote to dim the lights are so behind the technology curve that it's not even funny.

MDS,

You must have better beer than me. Mine always quit supplying liquid after a few minutes and I have to replace them with new ones.

I am going to get one of those brain dimmers like Marshall has once I save up 11 bucks.

Please share your secret with the rest of us...I've been looking for a way to turn my brain OFF for a number of years. Maybe then I could get to sleep at a reasonable hour. :)

But then by the fifth beer I really need the lights on BEFORE I get up to get another one... ;)

I use Lutron Spacer System switches. These are similar to the Spacer switches except that they include a clear back box. I run an IR emitter into the box (illegal) and then use my control system to turn them on/off/dim. Pretty cool and a lot less expensive than some of the alternatives like Lutron Radio RA systems.

I likely will put dimmers in every room of my home eventually because it's awesome having a remote by the bed that can turn the bedroom light on/off/dim easily.
