Not sure if this is where this post belongs, but here it is...

I just bought a new Onkyo TX-SA607 receiver and am getting a HTPC to hook up to it this summer. My question is whether or not I should use the IPod docking station that came with the iPod (USB) or buy the Onkyo UPA1 iPod docking station? Think they would both deliver the same quality sound? One better than the other? Thanks for the advice.

I would probably use the one that's most convenient. I use the onkyo iPod dock with my roommates iPods because I can use the Onkyo remote, but with your HTPC, you could use the onscreen display or iTunes or whatever that might be more useful.

most convenient and cheaper is the connection I already own, the ipod to PC dock. If the 2 are equal in sound then I'll stick with that one.

I doubt the Onkyo dock would provide better audio connection than the audio coming from your HTPC as long as you have a decent sound card. If you like how it sounds, it's probably not worth the $100 for a dock.

Yeah, just stick with the current dock and you will be fine. I've never noticed any sound quality difference between using the dock and using a docking station on other recievers.

I use both, for completely different applications. If I want the TV off and just listen to music, based on the playlists I have on my IPOD and use the onkyo remote, I use the dock. If i'm using the computer, I either use Itunes, or the USB dock to use my IPOD. I REALLY like having both options, although certainly not necessary. As far as sound quality goes, its basically a wash.
