iphone sound quality

So my wife and I just broke down and got two iPhones and have been very impressed so far. I used a 3.5mm plug to RCA and plugged it into the back of my Denon last night because Pandora Radio is too cool. I know mp3 quality pretty much just plain sucks compared to other sources but would I gain any advantage at all by plugging a cord into the bottom of my iphone rather than the headphone out? Let me know if you have any other suggestions.

Well mp3 audio quality streamed from internet is typically encoded at very low bitrates - 32-64kbps so not much can be done about it, BUT supposedly I have read somewhere than bottom of iphone audio out (thru their proprietary plug) is actually a line-out, unlike headphones out on top of the device.

So my answer is yes, plugging it on "bottom" will improve audio quality, but don't expect miracles ;)

It probably woudln't sound any better with pandora since that is like FM quality anyway, but for other audio formats playing directly off the ipod, using the connector at the bottom should yeild better sound quality, as it's a balanced connector unlike the headphone out jack, or maybe you can just get an ipod dock if Denon makes them... or just get an inexpensive cord from ebay.
