The new iShok Nano Case protects the iPod media player from accidental damage through a combination of hard plastic and soft rubber, in a sleek and stylish design. The case is described (rather eloquently) as "the first case to provide 360' polycarbonate armor with thermoplastic rubber shock absorbers." Hey, who wouldn't want thermoplastic shock absorbers on their iPod?

There are a lot of cases for the Nano and they all leave something to be desired. I ended up with the Belkin Carabiner case as it was the closest to ideal I could find.

I can't tell from the picture if this case gets it right. There seem to be a few types:
1. A slip type case that surrounds the iPod. All I have seen lack a screen protector and there is no way to hook it to your belt or anything like that.
2. The 'flip top' or 'wallet type'. Again every one I've seen lacks a screen protector. They figure it is protected when you close the flip top or wallet. Great, except you have to open it up to use the controls and if you do hang it from your belt, you cannot read the lcd. The ones I tried did not have a way to secure the iPod, so if you pick it up upside down, the iPod slides right out.

The Belkin Carabiner case is almost perfect. It is leather and surrounds the iPod and there are cutouts around the lcd and the click wheel. When you hang it from your belt or hip pocket, it hangs upside down so you can easily see the LCD. It has a snap to secure the iPod so it cannot fall out. You can use any hook of your choosing or use the carabiner clip it comes with. The negative - NO SCREEN PROTECTOR. It comes with a flimsy piece of plastic that is not adhesive and is basically useless. Their protector was a clearly an afterthought. If they would build in a plastic screen protector, this would be the best case out there, IMO.

It's amazing how all of the companies just copy each other...
