I don't really have room for it anywhere else. It won't fit where the DVR is, and the upper shelf can't be lowered. I could probably set my TV on top of it, I guess. :)

From where I sit about 15' away, the center channel is only about 9 - 10 degrees below my ears. Occasionally I hear speaker rather than person, but less often than one might think.

Then again, I was OK with HTIB satellites for the longest time, and now I'm not. You've probably just given me another nagging itch. Why would you do that to me?

Thanks Adam! What a great dog in your sig. Would you consider trading my receiver for your dog?
Thanks! And...no. :D

As for your center channel placement, that's one of the first things that I noticed, too. My suggestion would be to scoot your Marantz and the speaker to the left so that the center channel was more in the...wait for it...center. :) Also, I'd put something under the front lip of the speaker to angle it upwards a bit to face your listening position. My center channel is also lower than I'd like, and I use two rubber stoppers (one under each front corner of the speaker) to angle it up. If you do either of those, you'll want to rerun Audyssey.

I wanna see a picture of the chair!!! Thats the important part...

The jades in the classifieds would be a great start, then get a c1 center to match, you would have a really nice front end...

PS That center has to be moved... Pull the stand out push the tv back and put the center on the top in front of the tv..

The center is a little more centered now. I scooted the Marantz as far left as it'd go, then moved the center next to it. I have a toddler who falls down a lot, so I dare not scoot my TV to the back edge of the stand. As deep as the speaker is, I don't think there'd be room for it and the TV at the same time anyway. I'll take another pic when I buy and receive some speakers. I'll try to remember to get a shot of my Berklines while I'm at it.

I intend to get a pair of MB Quart VS05B unless anyone convinces me otherwise. They're scant on reviews -- well, the bookshelves by themselves anyway, and I've never heard them in person. But of the Vera series in general, seldom was heard a discouraging word. And judging from the MB Quart car speakers I've owned in the past, I'll probably love them. MB Quart of olde is deserving of my repeat business, even if they stopped existing in that particular incarnation several years ago.

All I'm waiting for is pay day.

So this deal is $3,151 off suggested retail?:)

I doubt they ever sold for that much. But they are at least half off, best I can figure. They're still sold in Europe for over 700 EUR, or at least my Google-Fu hasn't revealed anything cheaper anyway. It appears that they're 10 years old and the last remnants of the old MB Quart stock from before the takeover / split / whatever.

They use to list for $1500/2000 back around 2004, so not quite $3,100 off.
The word was nice on/for the series - with over-built cabinets.

They do look real nice for the current price - shipping looks like $75 - and
that is because they are heavy.

It looks like a good decision.

We'll find out soon. :)

Now, watch them sell out when I've been trying to save for them for a month, and I'm only a day away from being able to pull the trigger.

Just stay in stock a little bit longer, little Quarts. You can do it.

I would buy the center at the same time since you will most likely never see another one...

I'm already stretching the WAF to the breaking point just buying the bookshelfs. Maybe if the centers are still around for my birthday I'll ask for one.

I'm actually pretty pleased with my existing center channel, truth be told. It has a full, resonant midbass (Audyssey sets its default crossover to 40Hz in fact) without sounding boomy or coloring the timbre. Voices sound natural, and it's all around better than I'd expect from a Radio Shack special.

But I do feel the urge to collect and hoard these speakers. I'd like to have the Quart center just for OCD if nothing else.

On a different note, I was going through pictures on an old phone and found a pic of my Berklines when I first unboxed them. They're a good deal more broken in and have a bunch of bright-colored plastic toddler flotsam now, but I dig this picture.

I think my next purchase, after the Quart bookshelfs, will be those Andrew Jones Pioneers to replace the final remnants of my RCA HTIB satellites in the rear.

Are you still from planet earth?:)

I have owned RadioShack/Optimus/RCA speakers and center - and some KLH speakers.
You may be in for an ear and eye opener, with the MB Quart sonic signature. Audyssey
can not equalize the timbre (voice tone) of different speakers. > Each speaker tends to
have its own timbre. Once you get a timbre match speaker, things can change and the
sound can be real nice.

As nice as the Andrew Jones speakers are - they are still limited >> however,
I prefer them over Optimus/RCA (Tandy did license the RCA name for a while),
and KLH speakers - plus some more budget-friendly speakers. They for sure
are in a higher class over HTIB speakers.

However, to each their own - if you feel that your current center gives you that
paradise, audio in wonderland feel - then continue to enjoy.:)

Maybe you're right. Maybe I should view the acquisition of the center channel as a higher priority, as its availability is more limited than the Pioneer surrounds.

You guys are enablers, the lot of you. If you're supposed to be my Audioholics Anonymous sponsor, you're doing a terrible job. This is the least effective 12 step program I've ever heard of. :>

Yep, I daresay I'm better equipped than a great many people for distinguishing timbre from pitch, from volume, from resonance, from tessitura, from lots of other ways to describe sound and musicality. I recognize the need to ensure that we're talking about the same thing, though, so I see why you linked this. Our difference of opinion isn't based on mistaken use of terminology in this case.

Man, this is a dry article. I'm halfway through the first page and I'm struggling. The author apparently feels strongly enough about his point to devote several pages to it, but I'll be damned if I can see what that point is yet. It's all infinitesimal minutiae so far, a tempest in a teacup. I'll keep at it, though. :)

I think I will take your advice and replace the center channel before the surrounds if the Quart center is still available whenever I can afford it. Regarding the bookshelf mains, they're ordered!

I hope your speaker stands can hold some weight - I believe the
bookshelf speakers weigh 26 lbs each.

You can always use the KLH for surrounds

Enjoy your reading, if the article is dry - then get a glass of water.
