Deciding not to repair my yamaha 5990 for a third time, I replaced it with an integra 6.9. The price was real good and being able to select a separate source for the zone 2 speakers on the back patio will be nice. The sound is quite an improvement, so I am very pleased.

Perhaps more of an fyi for others than a question, but:

After getting it all hooked up, I have no audio at zone 2. Further reading in the manual says zone 2 cannot output any digital signals, only analog. That isn't real handy since I am HDMI for dvd and satellite, and digital from itunes via airport express.

How to I get around this? The obvious solution would be to run a second set of analog cables, is this the only way? And digital sound from itunes is much better than analog, so I guess I need a splitter so I can still run both?

thanks.

Yes, but most devices will output both digital and analog signals simultaneously so it isn't a problem to have both connected at the same time.

If you connect say your DVD player to the receiver with both digital and analog cables and the receiver is set to 'auto', the digital sound will be available for the main zone and the analog audio will be available to be piped to zone 2.
