Integra / Denon / Pioneer Which to get?

Howdy, my second post here. First was asking quesitons about speakers, but I need a receiver for the speakers so here I am.

I am trying to decide between the Pioneer SC-5, Integra 7.9, and a comparable Denon. I have only heard one Integra, but it was the lower end model.

I have 2 options that I have been looking at:
1)2 bookshelf speakers with a sub(has own power).
2)2 floorstanding speakers

I have a DVD/CD carousel along with DTV as my sources. For the video, having the ability to do a good upconvert is a real plus.

Having the ability to grow into a 7.1 system is ideal.

So which is the better value?

The SC-05 from 6th Avenue for $700 would be my pick.

Without knowing what speakers you will be driving our suggestions will be purely based on the best overall performance, features, and/or personal preference.

I would get either the Integra 7.9 or Denon 3808.

The sc-05 with the ice amplifiers is an excellent pick. I don't think you would be disappointed with the denon either. I am leary of integra just because of the onkyo affiliation. Some people love onkyo, but they run way too hot for me. I know it's the same as lexus to toyota, but toyota's reliability is higher than onkyo. Read too many posts about 6-- and 8-- series onks frying out or actually going up in flames. Makes me hesitant. My 2 cents. I am a new denon convert and in love with them now for the audyssey mult eq.

Check this out. Below.

The Integra DTR-7.9 is the same as the Onkyo TX-SR806.
The Integra has gold plated connectors on all his jacks, but you pay several hudred of dollars just for that, plus the exclusivity of the Integra dealers, absolutely not worth it.

The Onkyo TX-SR806 is $600. (37.5 lbs)
The Pioneer Elite SC-05 is $700. (40.1 lbs)
The Denon equivalent for the same kind of money doesn't exist (overpriced*).
* (That will be the Denon AVR-3808ci at $999 and weights 35.6 lbs).

Between the 806 and the SC-05, I'll go with the Pioneer Elite SC-07 (40.1 lbs) for only a couple hundred more ($900). About that? :)
Oups! The price went up, it's now $999.99

* Here: http://cgi.videogon.com/cgi-bin/cl.pl?rcvr71ch&1249999099

Or for that same price ($899.99), about the Onkyo TX-SR876 (53.1 lbs), now that's a much better video processor with it's HQV Reon VX-50 chip. And power wise, it beats the Pioneer Elite SC-07 (into 4-ohm loads anyway).
And if you think it's too much, there is also the predecessor of the 876,
which is the Onkyo TX-SR875 for only $749.99 and weights 50.9 lbs.

And what about the Marantz SR8001 (33.1 lbs) for only $699.99

>> Just scroll down a bit.

From all of these excellent receivers, I'll go with the Marantz SR8001, or the Onkyo TX-SR876, or the Pioneer Elite SC-07. Any of these three is a winner, with the slight edge ;) going for the Onkyo TX-SR876 for it's excellent video processor (the best of the group), and it's power into 4 ohms (which is again the best to drive speakers that are rated at 4 ohms or so), and also for Audyssey MultEQ XT and Audyssey Dynamic EQ and Audyssey Dynamic Volume and THX Ultra2 Plus and THX Volume Plus and Burr-Brown TI PCM-1796a Dacs for all channels and VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry) again for all channels and for the biggest transformer of the group plus the biggest power supply and heat sink and for it's overall build quality and for the quality of all it's internal parts and for the ability to adjust various video parameters for each individual HDMI inputs separately and for it's ISF video calibration and it's easy to operate features and for it's overall ergonomics and for it's simple to understand OSD (on-screen-display) and for the
AMAZING VALUE that it represents OVERALL. :)

I've heard running hot, but not going up in flames or even frequent breakdowns. Any documentation to back this claim?

Ya, there were few posts from owners at AVS, but not as much as frequent, only a couple per page or two.
Flames and smoke coming out, but nothing major, like the house burning down.

Anyway, still the 805 is a great receiver that keep you warm in the winter and save you a bunch on your heating bill. :) It pays by itself. After a couple winter seasons, your 805 ends up being completely FREE. :)
And, it does have Audyssey MultEQ XT, too. :)

The Denon 3808 cost twice, and cost more money too in your heating bill.
So after a couple winter seasons, it even cost you an additional double price of what you originally paid for it.
So, if you paid $1,300 for it, after a couple years it becomes about $2,600 . So, just figure out if you keep it for ten years.

The Onkyo 805 ($400), on the other hand, after ten years of ownership, becomes not only FREE, but it gives you an additional $5,000 in total heat saving bills. :) Now, with that FREE extra $5,000 in your bank account, can you imagine all the toys that you can buy for yourself, your wife, your kids, your Mom, your Dad, your brothers and sisters, your aunts and uncles, your friends, your girlfriends, your girlfriend's girlfriends, your neighbors at your neighborhood pubs, and the speeding tickets to the cops. :)
So, I'll keep my Onkyo 805, thank you very much, good night and good day all winter long. :)

Besides, I'm moving to Alaska next winter.
