I installed a Sharp 37" LCD for a customer today. He had an Insignia DVD/VCR combo to hook up to it. I was thinking, "Oh.... It's going to be fun explaining to him why it looks crappy". My worries were unfounded, however. It turns out that this unit is manufactured by LG. In fact, the remote is identical to other LG units I have seen, as are the menus.
Why does any of this matter? This thing pumped out a fantastic picture through component. Not only that, but it also output the VHS over component. That is a very rare feature nowadays. I have, in the past, hooked up LG Super Multi Format DVD/VCR upconverting players to HDTV's and was amazed by the picture quality through HDMI. Now I see that LG does component video right too. The picture blows away just about every other combo player I have seen and demolishes just about all Sony players, period.
I'd have to say that this player is a bargain. It produces a great picture for both DVD and VHS and it's dirt cheap.
