It's not just talking. That first ten minutes sure as hell will surprise you when it rises to the climax of that farm scene. It's not all talking, and it's very suspenseful if you pay attention. I will admit, the previews are terrible at saying what the movie is about, make sure that if you were watching this to see the Basterds and Brad Pitt's witty funny character, expect them and him to be in about 15 minutes total of the whole 2 1/2 hour movie. I saw it in the theater and I was getting bored at some parts, but it more than makes up for it in the climax of each scene. There is no way you can compare this to Blare witch project. Just like Pulp Fiction and a lot of tarantino movies, you have to listen to the talking, then see the action, it makes the action that much better. But everyone's entitled to their own opinion, I just think maybe you should try to bear that scene again and watch it. You may just like it.

I enjoyed the movie. The audio defaults to DTS HD-MA. I had an issue with the disc freezing twice during one scene. I found out after that my Sony S-350 is one revision back from current firmware so I'll try again as soon as the update finishes. The details are below, I'll skip some space because they may be spoilers if you haven't seen the film.

[Here be spoilers]
About 90 minutes in, the picture froze twice. The scene is in the basement bar in Paris. The scene first froze when the SS guy proposed a toast to the 1000 year reich. The action started up again after the gun fight when Wilhelm? (Max's father) is leaning on the bar with a machine gun and the Lieutenant is negotiating with him from upstairs. The action freezes again and picks up when the actress is getting bandaged up.

By the way, that's the first issue I have had with a BluRay disc other than being annoyed by previews and long load times for BD-Java BS.

Follow up: the latest firmware did not fix the issue. I use the chapter advance to chapter 17 which triggered the freeze. Advancing forward or backward with the chapter advance button didn't help. That scene is just hosed for me.

The rest of the movie played without any problems.

My wife and I watched it last night, and we both enjoyed it. It was actually a pretty quick load on my sony s360 and it played flawlessly throughout. Pitts character was hilarious, but in a sick way which should be no surprise considering the director. IMO...this is one of QT's better works.

I give it 3.5......a fun watch, but nothing to get overly excited about.

Jim, I took the liberty of using spoiler tags. I stayed away from this thread intentionally, because I feared having the movie spoiled for me, which I finally finished tonight.

I had major issue too, pretty much at the identical spot. Mine is on current FW with BD60, and it didn't work on my bro's 350 either.

Here is my first post regarding the matter:

You can continue reading the thread for a couple of extra details, but the main thing is that a new replacement disc had it working fine. However, I only started from that chapter, which might have been no 16?

I thought you'd be interested.

I saw it in theatre's and honestly, I wanted my 7 bucks back.

Over hyped, over drawn, overly boring.

Almost fell asleep during the bar scene, which is the longest and most useless scene in the movie. If you saw the trailer, you pretty much saw every single good scene in the movie.

I agree with this assessment. I know this BR is sitting under my Christmas tree wrapped as someone bought it for me.

Jim, I received a pretty interesting response during my limited sleuthing of this title. It appears that Universal has poor quality control, historically.

Funnily enough, the one HDDVD title that gave me the worst issue was also a Universal title.

I did the Block Buster thing and liked the film well enough. No glitches or play back issues. My BD60 informed me that it was connecting to a network and I'm not sure what that means because I haven't read the manual. I'm not sure where the manual is ...

Mel Gibson must be going, SEE ?!? ... I TOLD YOU !!! :D
If you're Jewish and a little sadistic, this film is a must see. :)

Since my audio comes via an optical connection the fancy audio codec just goes to DTS on my system and that's fine with me. I was pleasantly surprised by that because I usually have to press a whole mess of buttons to get that.

The best part of the whole movie for me (not gonna spoil the plot so relax) is when that David Bowie tune, Putting Out Fire made me ever so glad that I just got through jamming an amp into my system not too long ago. I may not have to own the movie but that one tune? ... gotta have it. ;)
