I'm considering purchasing this unit because of its HDMI, 1080, SACD capability and it will eliminate my TV remote (1 less is good, no?)

I'm currently running DVI to HDMI with optical and the image pretty good, but wondering if Sony HDMI from the 975 to Sony HDMI would be better. Also, any known reviews and pros/cons of this unit would be appreciated. Better safe than sorry. Many thanks in advance.

As I understand it, DVI-D (which DVI output on DVD players uses) and HDMI are almost the same except for one thing: audio support on HDMI. Unless Sony is using something non-standard in their HDMI support, the brand of player shouldn't make that big of a difference. That's not to say that one player won't be better than another, but that all brands should be following the set standards.

Thx Xargos. As far as I know, you are correct. The only difference that I know is the audio that HDMI offers over DVI. If video is the same - COOL!

I'm going to search the web this morning for specific information about the player however. This is what I'm looking for. A friend of mine suggests that unless you buy Sony "flagship" players then you are taking a big chance on quality.

I have the Sony 60" Grand Wega HDTV and find it terrific so far, but I have a bad history with their planned obsolesence and swore to seek any/all input before purchasing anything from them again. That and/or I'd buy something like a "replacement guarantee" that retailers like Best Buy offer.
