The RX-V861 doesn't decode lossless tracks. I'm not sure if it accepts PCM over HDMI, I would assume yes since it's a pretty recent model.

The Pioneer VSX-1018-AH-K decodes lossless tracks and has that uber sexy white display light!

Try to get the owner's manual of both and check out the features they have and decide which satisfies your needs more.

The 1018 is a much cooler looking unit and it does a few more things than the Yammie. I would buy the Pioneer myself.

That is a bit of an unfair comparison, as the Pioneer is a new unit and the Yamaha is an old model. You should compare the Pioneer VSX-1018AH-K with the Yamaha RX-V663 or RX-V863.

All three of those should be good, though which one would be best to buy will depend on exactly what features matter to you, and the exact price you can find for each one.
