I would like to know how do these loud speakers compare for the people who have heard both.
I would also like impressions of the rest of the primus line such as the p351 center, bk163 bookshelf etc.
I have the new pioneer's and I love them but i need a extra pair of speakers for my theater room, i was thinking how getting a extra set of the pioneer's(since there so good and so cheap)....
however have been hearing nothing but good things about the infintys on other forums so i thought i would ask

Both speakers are high value, good performers, especially at their sale prices. However, the Pioneer line has a MUCH better tweeter IMO. Having spent a couple of months with both, I'd lean towards the Pioneers. They suffer less power compression, and have a more detailed and balanced sound overall.

Here are my reviews:

Pioneer:
Pioneer SP-PK52FS 5.1 Andrew Jones Loudspeaker System Review

Wow cool thanks for the fast response gene....hey in your opinion did the infinity's do anything better than the pioneer nears other than bass? Also did you get to check the p351 center?

I had the 163 Infinities, while they were good I found something missing. I found what was missing on the Pioneers 52's.

Unfortunately I didn't directly compare them. I compared the Infinity's to the EMPs and the Pioneers to the EMPs and made notes. In addition, I made notes during extensive listening tests of each speaker individually. I think the Infinity's may have a slight edge in bass depth and less chestiness in male vocals but the highs on the Pioneers are just so much more open and less compressed sounding IMO. I'm not dissing the Infinity's however. At $200/pair on sale, they are a steal! But, at $400/pr (retail), not quite so much.

I have both the P163s and the BS22-LRs currently. I prefer the BS22s but the P163s aren't exactly a bad speaker; the BS22s are just a better speaker :) The 163s only seemed to have a problem when played hard full range and compared to the BS22s, they don't have much more bass for being a much larger speaker with a larger driver. The 163s are not quite as detailed and sort of seem (not necessarily intentionally?) to perform best with a certain categories of audio, where the BS22s have been solid with everything I've thrown at them.

Great! Thanks for for the info gene. Not to get off topic to much....but, since you review speakers how much of a performance gap would you say there is from the pioneers to the Aperion grand verus towers, salk sound towers and svs ultra towers?

So what would be a step up from the BS22-LR's if they are better than the p163's. I'm looking to put together a identical 5.0 system. Budget is $1500 for 5.0, new or used. Is there any speakers that are better?

I would rather save money, but if I have to spend a little more money to get better sound, then I think it won't be worth it. 90% movies/gaming and 10% music by the way.

You won't need a step up with the Pioneers 22's. On sale at amazon too.

With cost not a factor, what is the preferred 5.0, floorstanders for surround is not possible??

sp-fs52 floorstanders for LCR with 2 x sp-bs22 for surround
or
sp-bs22 identical 5.0

ANYTHING is possible. There are plenty of people who do 5.1 or 5.0 with towers. I don't think you need to over think this one that much either in this price bracket - identical in this case won't really be a big issue since the whole line is timbre matched, they should all work together well regardless of which ones you buy. For more music, I'd probably go with the towers up front and the matching center. More movies, I think BS22s would be fine. I paired them up with my sub and thought they did just fine even at very elevated levels.

I sold my P163s :)

Outstanding advice guys. I went to fry's to listen today and took home a full set the same day. 2 x sp-fs52 towers, 1 x sp-c22 center, and 4 x sp-bs22lr for surround and for my desktop speakers. Wow, listening in person, really helps you decide what to get. I loved the smooth highs and balanced sound making voices sound great. IMO was much better than most of the more expensive speakers there.

How do the P.E. TriTrix Compare?

I'm just curious if anyone has done a direct comparison of the PE TriTrix MTM against either the Pios or the Primus towers?

I have a pair of the 363s and am considering building some TriTrix. I just wonder if it's worth the time with these good budget offerings on the market.

If you just want the project, which I can totally understand because it is fun, build the TriTrix. If you want something to listen to now, then go with the Pioneers before the prices go back up.
