I listened to some Infinity Entra Three tower speakers the other day and was quite impresses. Since these were last years model they had them on sale for $369.00. I gave the guy $50 to hold them for me so that I could ask all you gurus out there what you thought about Infinity and in particular the Entra series. Thanks in advance.

I have never been impressed with anything from Infinity, ahhh!! the infamous Emit tweeter. Anyone remember those? I think you would be wise to look at something else, Paradigm, Energy, Axiom even Klipsh would be a better choice.

Actually some of the klipsh horns are not bad, not harsh like you would think. My friends dad has a pair of Cornwall II's that have horn mid and a horn tweeter and he is running a krell amp and pre-amp and it does not sound to shabby at all. Horns are not a bad thing if used correctly, a lot of tweeters today are horn or semi horn loaded. Of course there are some horns that are really bad such as ones used for PA systems. arrrggghhh!!!!

Cornwall, Belle, Heresy, Klipschorn, & La Scala are a whole different ball game. I am speaking of the new lines & HT offerings from Klipsch. I Had a chance to check out the RF-7's with & without full 5.1 set-up. HORRIBLE!

I would have to agree - the new Klipsch are horrible!

Now the first generation Fortes. . . quite good. Believe or not, the tweets in those were very sweet. In fact, I haven't heard a cone/dome speaker yet that compares . . . in the $1000 price range that is. No, I'm not a pedigreed audiophile, I'm quite sure there are speakers better than the older Klipsch. But the fact is the Fortes were very natural, very un-horn like sounding. I once owned two pairs of Fortes and a pair of La Scalas, very nice. Lacking in detail, but very dynamic!

Since I sold those about 12 years ago, I have been searching for a reasonably priced speaker that can compare . . . currently have Monitor Audio Silver 5 i's . . . whoa, what a difffernce . . .talk about bright! The closest I came was a set of Mission bookshelfs. . . cannot remember model (plasiflex woofs and tweets), nice sounding. Those whent to the "ex."

Well, I just ordered a pair of Ascend CBM-170's, looks promising. Now if I can just get that OLD Klipsch sound from these?!?!?

I would agree on the Fortes. I had a pair that are about 10-15 yrs old now & they are very smooth. I had been driving them with an older Pioneer receiver & up to about 1/2 volume they were sweet. Started screaming after that, but I'd have liked to have heard them with a high-end amp as I'm sure they would have sounded even better.
Hope the ex is still enjoying them.

Sorry for no response . . . thought this thread was dead!

Please, there will be no talk about exs' Argghhh!

Anywho, in 87/88 at one time I was running two pair of Fortes with a 200 watt Soundcraftsmen amp. Wow! Talk about live or Memorex. I was a young buck in the Army at the time, stationed in Germany . . . boy many folks sold their Infinitys and booze after hearing my system. Honest to goodness, there were three soundrooms at our local PX, and I audtioned everything there, B&W's (can't remember model, but much more expensive), some nice Polks (remember the side by side woofs), and Infinity, and believe me the Klipsch won the battle . . . for me anyway. I eventually sold one pair of Fortes and bought the LaScalas. Couldn't believe they carried those monsters in the PX. . . really couldn't believe my platoon sergeant let me keep em' :)

If I had a room big enough, I would love to have my LaScalas back and run it with my ACI Titan sub.

Well, I'm off on another speaker adventure, the Ascends should be here tomorrow. . . hoping they sound more neatral than my Monitor Audios!

That is so untrue! The RF-7's are very good indeed.
Many love them and are amazed by them. Myself
included. They go very well with the McIntosh too.
Just read the great reviews on the RF-7 as well
as many happy user reviews on www.audioreview.com

Opps, you did it again.

The Klipsch RF-7 are even better than the Forte.
I have a pair of Forte that I bought back in 1987.
After hearing the RF-7, I had to buy them. I couldn't
believe the sound!!! Now my Forte is up for sale, I
don't need it anymore, sad to say good by to the Frote
but I won't ever use them now that I have the RF-7.

I think the Infinity Entra's sound okay if you need some inexpensive floorstanders. I've got the Entra One's set up in a spare bedroom and they sound pretty good, though they don't do very well with a cheap amp or receiver. Although you can get the Athena ASF2's for $399 from audioadvisor.com and I'd have to say those are probably a much better value than the infinity's. Just my opinion. Good luck.

Yes, but good sound is in the ear of the beholder. Some folks just don't like horns. Simple as that.

Me I've had horns and domes. I like both. For a big HT set-up I would look into a big Klipsch system. For the finer details of music . . . give me domes.

Again, that's my preference. Yours can, and propably will differ. Isn't it great that's there's so many options out there for all of us? Hey, I hear the Acoustec system at Costco comes scarily close the RF's for sound quality. And at $699, apparently it's a steal.
