Infinity Alpha v Beta

How much difference between the Alpha & Beta speakers? Alpha's are available on closeout pricing, Beta's still pretty expensive.

I'm still having an unknown problem with one speaker, and thinking it's time to replace the towers. Nothing in the system is matched anyway... Center is Infinity Alpha, rears are some infinity's I bought from a friend, and the sub I made from madisounds design and driver. Looking for the shorter term solution until I win the lottery and can afford expensive cables to fix my unmatched speaker configuration and bad room dynamics, LOL

Infinity that disliked?

I don't think that's correct. There are a lot of helpful people on this forum who would certainly advise you if they had something to contribute. I haven't seen anyone here who uses Infinity, so there may just be a knowledge gap.

As I recall, Beta have always been the pricier speakers...by far. Also, the reviews I've seen indicate the Infinity's are basically JBL's with flashier nameplates and higher prices. If you like the sound of Infinity, you'll undoubtedly like the sound of JBL. Save some money. But first and foremost, do what every person on this forum will suggest to you....go audition and let your ears determine your new speaker choice (within budget constraints, of course...eh, Mulie?).
:)
Happy hunting.

Infinity and JBL are not the same company, they are merely OWNED by the same parent company, just like Marantz and Denon. IMO the two don't sound similar, and don't share any technology at all.

I can't comment on the Betas, because I haven't heard them, but I wasn't totally impressed with the Alphas. I thought the IL series was better than the Alphas when the Alphas came out.

My comment about the equipment similarities came from the review posted yesterday regarding the SVS, JBL, etc. sub shootout.

I agree with you. JBL and Infinity are very much different. I use the IL series for center and surround and like them. :)

My friend has the Beta center and bookshelf surrounds and they sound great! Especially for the price.

I've heard the beta's and really really impressed with the sound. But, they are bit more then I presently want to pay for speakers. I haven't heard anything else that sounds as good as my old Criterion's (partially rebuilt), except for the Beta's. Alpha's are on close out and very value priced. If someone had thought the A's were nearly as good as B's, and with their present pricing structure, then I'd order them without listening to them. Otherwise wait until the C's come out and buy the B's :)

Hi, I have Infinity Beta 40 and C250 for center channel with Denon 1804.
They are awesome...I think alphas are discontinued...but not sure.

The Alphas have been phased out. You can still find a few dealers with some stock - but, it is rare. Also, there's eBay and Audiogon.

I'm running Betas now. 20s for the fronts and the C360 for the center. I located an authorized dealer for them. I was able to get them for for a bit more than 50% off. It easily put the Betas down into the price range of the Primus - if I had to purchase them locally.

As far as sound goes. The Betas are not too hard to drive. The sound great, for the price.

Authorized dealer, selling them under list? I'm surprised, because I couldn't find them anywhere under list. Alpha's are available directly from Infinity at great pricing...., but they're still Alpha's.
