It hasn't been released in the US and AFAIK it's not been released on BD anywhere yet. The PQ on the DVD itself was amazing, I'm looking forward to when it's released on BD. I've seen a quite a few dvd only movies on cable that also looked incredibly high quality, I'm guessing they use a high quality scaler to 'clean up' the picture.

I saw it last night on ABC-HD and it was broadcast in 1080i (high def) but no it can't be bought on Bluray yet. Any program can be broadcast in HD, but the station will be doing the scaling before transmission.

so you guys are saying they upscaled a dvd, to look that good, wow.

but, i don't like commercials, so i didn't really watch to much of it. i will try to borrow the dvd. so if i don't like the pq, i am not out a movie night.

TV stations don't typically go out and buy a DVD (or BluRay) to play off of.
I don't have the friends in the industry I had 20 years ago: but they used their own formats then and I suspect that the do now. IIRC 10 years ago, Disney's digital masters were in D5 format.

So I suspect that ABC was using a non-Blu-Ray HD source.

Yeah, the up converted SD-DVD has very good PQ. Not sure I'd even get the BD.

Are we going to have to take this outside?

:D
Why? I have the SD-DVD already, just don't see the need for the BD, but should it be released, well, then I'd have to give it some serious thought. I'm impressed with the SD up converted quality though. I haven't picked up the new Monster's, Inc on BD yet either.

Oh, I was just joking. An audio/video-holic not wanting to get the blu-ray just sound so, well, wrong. :) Seriously, though, no need to ever upgrade if you're happy with what you've got.

Nemo is scheduled for next year and Incredibles will either be late 2010 or worse 2011.

OK, who am I kidding here. :) If it were out on BD I'd be all over it.:D

if there is a commercial HD copy out there. then why would it be such a big deal to burn that to BD ? maybe they are just playin the market .

Of course any delay this long is either about the features (getting drector commentaries and the like) or (more likely) timing for the market.

Pixar is all rendered. It would have been a high-definition digital format before it was ever on film.

There are some nice commercial scalers that do a good job with the picture. I noticed a few movies that looked better over cable than upscaled by my PS3 . I've got my buddies Key Digital HD Leeza 1080p scaler sitting in the other room but no tv to hook it up to at the moment to see how much difference it makes. He swears it'll make a regular dvd look almost as good as a BD and will clean up just about any picture fed through it. I'll play with it in a few weeks after I get a tv.

That's the video side though, what about the AUDIO? :) One of the things that has impressed me most about the Pixar BDs is the audio quality. You can't upscale that :D The upscaled SD DVDs look great via my Oppo too, but I'll take the dts-HD tracks any day of the week.

Yeah, I really-really like the audio improvements with BD. On some movies the difference between the HiRes audio and the standard audio is quite dramatic. It's nice when you can get both, excellent audio and video, together.
