Does anyone have any suggestions as to what kind of rear surround in-wall speakers to replace my Monitor Audio Silver FXi? They are mounted on the back wall. I currently have Monitor Audio 5i series for the front, center and sub. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Is there a space limitation? Why do the FXi's require replacement? Do you want something in a dipole? Do the FXi's not timbre match the 5i series? How about the 3i's?...that's what they are made for. Please elaborate.

My wife would rather have an in-wall speaker instead of the wall mount due to the size of the FXi.

I didn't know if the S4's could be used as rear surrounds. Thanks

As rjbudz link indicated, Monitor Audio call their in-wall and in-ceiling speakers the CP series. I just installed the CP Gold in-wall and it is a really nice sounding in-wall. They make Silver and Bronze models as well.

From what I have read so far most are saying that rear in-wall surrounds should be placed on the side wall. Can I get away with mounting them on the rear wall with the same effect? Thanks for all your help.

The MA in-walls are not dipole/bipole speakers but point source so the idea would be to "aim" them at the listening position. The side wall would likely be best for this purpose. I am using the CP Gold in-wall as a center channel directly below the viewing screen http://forums.audioholics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24087 so my application is different than yours. There seems to be a preference for point source as rear/surrounds in multi-channel music with the dipole/bipole preferred for HT applications. My preference was for point source as I use it 50/50 music/HT. If it were a dedicated HT, I would look seriously at dipole/bipole for rear/surround duties.

My use is also 50/50 HT and music. I have no other option than to mount on the rear wall. Do you have any suggestions for dipole/bipole rear surronds that would complement my MA 5i series center and front speakers? Thanks for your time.

The the MA CP in-ceilings (round) have a directional tweeter as do the Triad in-walls. I would suggest listening to them before cutting holes in the walls. That tends to upset the WAF ballance. :D
