All cable manufacturers admit that the type of copper matters especially over years of use. Also what about shielding from interference. In my studio i know my phone is about to ring before it actually rings, lol. I'm guessing the speakers are not shielded well but still sound great.
I'm not a tech junkie. Just voicing my opinion about what i have been taught by very experienced people (recording engineers) although it has been mostly about line signal wire. I don't know much about speaker wire.
Can i get the conduit from monoprice? Does the sub cable inside the conduit have to be meet fire code or can i use normal canare line cable?
That is completely true. I still believe there is difference between wire though. Not all are the same. Canare 4s11 which is what i wanted to use is not rated for in wall use. Its priced 1.19 per foot. I don't think canare is overpriced. If thats what they charge then thats what it is.
You get conduit in the plumbing dept. of Home Depot or Lowes. You use plastic drain pipe. The purpose of conduit is to be able to change cables without opening up walls. All you need is an electricians snake.
Speaker wire should never be shielded. If wire is made of copper, then copper is copper, it is an element not a compound. So if you are not buying an alloy, copper is copper the world over.
By the way recording engineers more often than not have a music background and have no clue about physics, chemistry and electronics.
Shielded cable needs to have a good central copper core, and a tight braid. The insulation needs to have a dialectric constant in an appropriate range so the capacitance of the cable does not become excessive. Monoprice and Blue Jeans Cable have good products at a fair price. They are designed according to the physical parameters that govern the universe and not voodoo.
Canare by the way I would place in the voodoo category. And yes it is overpriced.
